And even post and reply now and then.

Try to keep an even keel.
Build bonds with family and friends.
Times sure change. I remember Civil Rights and the Vietnam war and won the draft lottery.
It's the only lottery I ever "won"

It's easy to feel powerless.
Control what you can control; influence people you can influence.

Thoreau went to jail for not wanting to pay taxes for whatever war was going on at the time.
He was aware of his times, but spent most of his time close to the earth (and Walden Pond)

If we have thus desecrated ourselves--as who has not?--the remedy will be by wariness and devotion to reconsecrate ourselves, and make once more a fane (temple or church) of the mind. We should treat our minds, that is, ourselves, as innocent and ingenuous children, whose guardians we are, and be careful what objects and what subjects we thrust on their attention. Read not the Times. Read the Eternities.

OK that's a bit extreme. I was visiting Walden Pond and my nice camera quit on me then and there. So I got a cheapie for the rest of the trip and it worked out.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
