Colonel Christopher Paris, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner, identified Cody Balmer of Harrisburg as the suspect behind Sunday’s arson attack at Governor Shapiro’s residence. During a news conference, police confirmed that Balmer scaled fences, evaded state troopers, and ignited the fire.

Deputy Police Commissioner George Bivens stated that Balmer was carrying a homemade incendiary device and managed to evade officers who were already aware of a security breach.

Since they knew, they may have been able to alert the family and save them.

Not lax security. Imperfect security.

Fences surround the entire building. I believe there are security cameras but there are likely gaps in their coverage. However the part of the building where the fire was set would not have a guard posted there all the time. I would guess that some sort of alarm was triggered when the guy scaled the fence. Also that part of the building is not the living quarters, but an area that is generally only occupied for special events.

To completely guarantee against any breach of the property would probably require at least 20 officers stationed at various points around the property 24/7 which is not remotely practical. There is 24/7 police presence however, and they apparently knew right away when the breach occurred but the guy was able do what he set out to do very quickly and evade the police. He did turn himself in, implying he knew that either someone saw him or he was captured on a security camera and would be caught soon enough

Apparently he does mechanical and welding work as a independent contractor. I didn't see any right wing stuff on his social media pages. Maybe he is mentally ill?
