(3,771 posts)about people when they are not in front of him, but once he has to face them he cowards and becomes a docile sheep. That is the general characteristic of bullies, 99% of bullies are cowards, that is why you saw them at the school yard with a bunch of idiots following the bully, but when the bully was alone he run, that is trump.

(1,104 posts)...and now he's shown himself to be a coward. Just like Joe and Mika. Just like the spineless big law firms. Just like the weaselly corporations and universities who've embraced the Dear Leader's fascism. These are the folks and institutions that never took the danger seriously until shit got real for them. They're the ones who both-sided and blithely laughed off the suggestion that a dictatorship could take root and be successful in this country. So they appease, bend the knee, and capitulate, and they do it in the meekest, weakest, of ways.
Maher's never been anything more than a bandwagon jumper who's never had an issue punching down, or showing his true colors of being an aggrieved white guy if it got enough head nods from the right-wing guests he lives to metaphorically (as far as I know) fellate. The fact he's a chickenshit bum is no surprise to those who've been paying attention to his schtick.

(163 posts)Is it Maher or his writers? Presumably they reflect his point of view but it is a business and his political positions attract an audience, on tv and for his stand-up act in Vegas. I enjoy his smarminess because I share most of his political views. But I get there are a lot of people who don't. Free country, right?

(30,280 posts)And your smarmy-assed pal Maher is helping it happen. Smooth move there, trying to shift blame to his writers...

(166 posts)He agrees with Trump on the border, he thinks DEI went too far, he thinks the police are dispirited by demands they behave, etc.
He says that the problem with the Democrats is that their leaders like Clinton and Obama are not as approachable as Trump.
He repeated the visit to the room where Clinton had his sessions with Monica Lewinsky, and called Senator Booker's 25 hour speech as blowing wind.
I used to enjoy Maher's show for many years, but it became apparent after the covid shutdown that it bothered him that he had to cut back on his live shows..
And how he saw the disease as one for the infirm, the fat, the old, etc, so he didn't want to be put upon by any consideration of them.
I have avoided most of his shows lately.

(4,295 posts)Hes always had a bit of a conservative streak to him. A big part of his income for years was doing college shows. Usually in the middle of the week. But as hes gotten more bigoted and sexist, colleges stopped booking him. Thats why he hates woke and gen z so much.

(137 posts)You do know that when Hitler wasn't orating he was considered a "normal" guy. He could be an extremely entertaining host with his lovely German Shephard dogs just before he would order you to be detained in Bergen-Belsen.
What a crock!

(10,502 posts)People should at least charge Maher for the vast quantities of neurological rent he takes up.
I enjoy his show. Don't agree with everything he says or thinks - not by a long way. But at least he has his own opinions instead of those handed down to him by partisan media and mindlessly regurgitated on socials.
But the obsession. I've said it many times. People hate heretics more than opponents, and the Maher stuff is one of the brightest examples of human behavior in that realm.
And this stuff is why the party can never course correct or self-reflect. Because it's heresy, and that must be stamped out.
It doesn't really work electorally. But I guess it makes people feel righteous. And that's the important bit, isn't it?

(4,295 posts)Not a democrat, never has been. And anyone who kisses Trumps ring the way Maher did is fair game.

(4,295 posts)By his own admission, he agrees with Trump on a lot of issues. He just another anti-vax, sexist, bigoted, rich, white, male, TV celebrity. Just like Trump. Hes not above criticism. No one is above criticism. No one should be. Especially those who go kiss Trumps ring.
