Here's a dilemma I'll bet some people would love to have

I was invited to the swearing in ceremony of Sen.-elect Mazie Hirono of Hawai'i. I normally never know where I'll be a week in advance, but I intended to visit my brother in the Langley area of Virginia in early January, and so knew I'd be near Washington on the third. I have ties to Hawai'i, and so said I'd be delighted to attend.

I just got another invitation, this time to the swearing in ceremony of Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri on the same day. She and I talked on the phone for a while about two weeks before the election. She said flat-out that she had no business hoping she'd get re-elected in a state every poll said Romney would carry by a big margin, and that Missouri Republican Party had practically handed re-election to her on a silver platter by nominating Akin as their candidate against her. She was quite correct, and I'd really like to go to her swearing in and reception, too. The two won't be far apart geographically, so I'm going to shoot for both.

At least there's no other inaugurations planned for Jan. 20th! I can't believe some of the invitations that came for some of the events of Jan. 20. Some of them crowed about what kind of cool event I could attend for a token contribution of a mere $250,000. A quarter million to attend some event for which I don't even own the proper attire to begin with? Who do they think I am, a Republican?(Can't make that one anyway--gotta be back at work in Europe on the 20th)
