Either the U.S. government *is* able to exert monetary and diplomatic pressure on El Salvador sufficient to produce Abrego Garcias release, or it isnt.
The latter would be either a bald-faced lie or a pretty stunning concession of our national impotence. The Vice President should pick one.

(258,613 posts)We keep hearing that no one has ever left that horrific prison where torture, abuse and death run rampant. So if Garcia was released and returned to this country, it would be historic news - and given that this remains this country's top story, he would certainly be expected to talk about exactly what goes on there and the horrors he experienced, the last thing that they want. I'm sure that there's an agreement between TFG and El Salvador's president that this is not going to happen, regardless of the courts, judges' rulings and the Supremes. And so his life is in serious jeopardy, if it's not already too late, since they cannot permit him to talk.
