How do we start a think tank?

All of the crazy bullshit infecting our politics today has originated in right-wing think tanks, funded by--you guessed it--billionaires/oligarchs. Somehow we have to counter this infestation of fascist ideas coming out of these shithole brain barns. Can we start our own to get our better ideas out? (Or maybe better yet, burn those right-wing bunks to the ground?) Ideas invited.

You need to fund a think tank. You need to have purpose, you need a board of directors, you need to formulate goals, ideology, methods, fundraising. I think some tanks are formed around hedge fund style funding. And brainstorming should be private, not in message boards that all humanity can read. DU should have its own think tank. Of course, now that GQP has stolen everything, is there anything left to think tank over? Can you put any of it back together? All this society cares about is money, materialism, guns, minerals, and owning the libs including women.

14. What pisses me off being in the psych field is the Rep use of psychology

I don’t know if they have a bunch of psychologists, psychiatrists and sociologists who are advising them but most people who are actually in the field are pretty liberal. I’ve found that maybe one out of about 15-20 people I’ve worked with might be Republican. I work in about a 60% Republican area too. We used to openly make fun of the one person who we suspected of being Republican - and she tried to deny it. We found out that she really was Republican when she stated that our work place was hostile towards Republicans in a workplace survey. Where they even find these people is what kills me. Why do the Dems not use these principles at all??

I know exactly how the Republicans use propaganda - it’s not that hard to figure out if you’ve studied social psychology. In one of my psych textbooks they showed how propaganda was used and the example in the text book was Newt Gingriches Contract of America. Get a few people in the psych field together and they could come up with a whole plan. I saw something someone came up with on daily kos. I tried contacting the guy whose wrote it but he never responded.
