(603 posts)Our side needs to come out forcefully against this and frankly we need to chastised these protestors. They are not our friends and its time we stop worry about offending them.

(10,969 posts)In three weeks, well barely remember the story.
We live in an unfortunate age where things are valued solely by political usefulness.
The story is no longer useful.

(10,969 posts)You and I had little trouble in believing the distinct possibility.
Im really annoyed with the usual grifters though. When the story popped, twitterati like Chris Evans and others cherry-picked from the assailants social media to give the impression of a crazed MAGA inspired by Trump. But if you looked at the totality of the guys socials, youd peg the probable radical protester right away.
The initial reporting was deliberately deceptive. And eagerly gobbled up.
And now itll be silence. People like that dont actually care. They perform caring as long as its politically expedient. Once its not, the act is dropped, and its on to the next thing.
Like watching garbage trucks work in real time. Usually Im in pajamas in my driveway when I want that sort of action.

(69,364 posts)For many people, actions speak louder than words. We see a crowd of people accusing a decent man of being "genocide Joe" and we recoil. We see masked people throwing red paint on Jewish people's homes and we say, "They don't speak for me." We see posters urging others to "send a message to the Democrats by electing Trump" and we think that's a really dumb idea.
Others cheer and go along with it. I don't understand those people. I don't distinguish hate from hate because "my sports team is right all the time."
And I don't believe in four-dimensional chess.

(27,461 posts)Looks like Chris Evans was correct.
At least some of this guys supposed support for Palestinians was either full on faked (the supposed photo of him holding a banner) or twisted (the quote that could have been taken either way but looked to me like he was ridiculing anti trump protestors).
Like I said elsewhere in this thread, Ive seen plenty of support of Palestinians by outright Nazi Jew haters on Twitter.

(10,969 posts)Or conflating the FSU guy with the Shapiro attacker.
Balmer is 38. He stated to law enforcement Palestine was his motivation. Kind of an anarchist sort.
White supremacist kicked out of student groups was the FSU shooter.

you would think they are Palestinian activists the way they use Gaza as a cudgel.
This guy is constantly posting about Israel murdering civilians but he doesnt give a fuck about Palestinians. He just hates Jews that much.
There are tons of this type of Holocaust denying maga who have taken up the cause.

(27,461 posts)Like I said upthread there are plenty of Jew haters that have taken up the cause so they can call Jews murderous animals. They are all over twitter. They wouldnt piss on a Palestinian if they were on fire.

(7,366 posts)Ballmer reports he has a grievance on behalf of friends and shows he identifies as Palestinian when he says our people. There is no evidence he is Palestinian.
He caused significant damage to property which possibly could have caused injury or death to residents in the house.
He admitted he carried a weapon that was not a gun and would have beaten Shapiro but apparently did not seek to find him once inside.
He turned himself in as though he believed he was committing an act of civil disobedience and wanted to take full responsibility for his actions.
Is this scenario similar in anyway to the attack on Nancy Pelosis husband or any of the other attacks/killings by young men where political events or ideology combined with emotional or mental instability result in criminal acts?

(2,145 posts)That there was some significant left wing extremist violence as well, and got responses that that wasn't true and it was all RWTP.
Sorry, but it is true and we shouldn't be defending it any more than right wing extremism.
