(9,212 posts)and psycho paying that number considering his income is obscene and suspicious for sure. Overall someone's "worth" as a person though imo should not be based on whether they are employed and or pay taxes as long as it is not illegal like in the case of psycho etc.

Yes, I know he's wrong all the way around about autism.

Many marginalized communities have higher incidents self-harm and suicidality - a pretty natural consequence of being treated as damaged goods.
None of the half-dozen people I know who are on the spectrum, who I know well enough to have had conversations about it, are searching for what happened, and none would change what is an essential part of who they are.

(38,637 posts)Who has at least a college degree, maybe more than one and who has always been a fully employed tax-paying citizen. He has a son with autism who is fully functional, with some individualized assistance at school (he's 10-ish?). I expect him to be a scientist or an engineer, based on current interests.
The post was commented on by another friend who is on the autism spectrum. She roller skates. I guess that still isn't playing baseball. But she has at least two degrees and is likely paying taxes in two countries, since she lives overseas at the moment
I went to college (relatively elite liberal arts college) with at least close two friends who are on the autism spectrum and are close to retirement after having lived full lives - married, children, paid taxes, worked jobs paying 6 figures.
And I have a great-nephew with autism. He struggles more than all of the other folks I've mentioned, but I'm sure my niece doesn't view her family as destroyed.
Pretty darn sure all of these folks are potty trained.
More than anything else he's done/said, this pisses me off. He is being directly cruel to people, calling them damaged, calling for research to fix them (or prevent others from their horrible fate). At least with measles, the primary victims are people who have actively sought it out.

This is such an asinine thing to say.
The 2 kids that just died from measles - will definitely never go on a date, never play baseball, never pay taxes .

(7,366 posts)They were unvaccinated and died from measles. RFK Jr was in a position to influence their parents to vaccinate their children. He did the opposite.
Now he is demeaning persons with autism for his own selfish ends.
I shudder when I consider what his second wife endured, and how he eulogized her after her suicide by speaking not about her and her accomplishments but about his lack of guilt.
His own liege was I think horribly negatively affected by the tragedy he experienced in the assassination of his father, his slimy alliance with Trump and the death and destruction party cannot be excused.
Violence begets violence is probably all too true. Amazing that so many victimized people are able to reject retribution and build a better world.

(11,989 posts)My daughter in laws sister was autistic. She had a job, paid taxes and most everything else she wanted to do. She was deprived of oxygen during birth and that is what the doctors believed caused her autism . She lived for 78 years and died in her sleep in her own bed in her own apartment.
I know there are those that are so severe they will never live alone, but geez.
This sounds like a rendition of " the users are a liability to the health of a society" argument.

(25,048 posts)In my work, I have known many folks who are "on the spectrum." To an individual, they are thoughtful, kind and attempt to be productive and contributing members of society.
Kennedy's comments are an insult to all those folks who are struggling to have meaningful lives, while Kennedy basks in the wealth earned by his great grandfather's illegal liquor smuggling during prohibition,. (another conservative failure).
He is as stupid as his boss.

(5,545 posts)I have Asperger's and out of every check I ever received from employers over a half century my taxes were taken out before I even received it. I guess that it is much more difficult for trust fund kids who have to have legions of attorneys and accountants to dodge paying taxes.
As for not going to the bathroom by myself, I'm not going to consider any criticism from someone who has crapped all over the legacy of one of the most revered families in the US.

(12,182 posts)My parents openly opined that I needed to be more social, locked me out of the house so Id go play with others. I have struggled socially but I am functioning and have never been without a job for the past 50 years (even working during college) and have paid my taxes unlike TSF. It hurts me to hear autistic people disparaged because there are SO many worse afflictions ... and brings back memories of feeling like I was damaged goods or excess population to quote Scrooge. 🥲

(920 posts)This is the same language that laid the groundwork for the Holocaust. The Nazis first went after the Disabled and those with Psychiatric conditions. This included children with Autism. The initial killings were framed as medical mercy killings, as if they were doing the victims a favor. What it really is is murder, straight up. A lot of the mass killing techniques the Nazis later used during the Holocaust were developed by medical doctors practicing euthanasia under a program called Aktion T4. They were secret medical murders of people with disabilities. These fascists must be stopped soon before this escalates. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aktion_T4

(15,399 posts)I've met or interacted with hundreds of high-functioning Autistics (or rather, people who would now be diagnosed with Autism), who paid taxes, got advanced degrees, were Engineers, plumbers, scientists; were somewhat famous professional musicians who also taught, owned their own homes and businesses, fixed autos, had kids, and yes - even played varsity Baseball.
Or one that advanced in rank and retired as a Full Bird Colonel in the Air Force; later becoming a CTO and VP at USAA. Ya, the last, my FIL, was a bit of a Jerk, but as a Mathematician, Administrative Manager, and Computer Science Engineer, he was exceptional.
JFK. jr. Is full of it. From what I've observed, he himself may very well be Autistic.
Especially since he was apparently a fully functional drug abuser.
Has he ever been evaluated under the more modern criteria?

He graduated head of his class in tech and got his Class A CDL at 19yrs old first try, and the whole DMV came out to watch him, execute a new maneuver they just implemented for testing, he nailed it!
He's had many girlfriends and plenty of friends. EVERYWHERE he works, they love him for his personality and dedication.

There are hundreds of thousands of people on the spectrum who do these things every day, and do them well. And were alive to do them, because we got vaccinated and never ran the risk of dying from measles.

My kids are a scientist and a small business owner.
I have held a job, continuously, since I was 12 years old (never been unemployed or laid off in my life).
I have paid taxes, of some kind, since I was 12 years old.
I have been writing poetry since I was 14 yrs old.
I just took a dump and I did it all by myself.

Autogenocide exposes how states/countries drive populations to destroy themselves through poisoned environments, collapsing healthcare, misinformation & engineered despair.
It's mass death by design & by the outright neglect of society.

Tell all of those desperate parents that his new program will work to help their child, and then about 6 months later mom and dad will receive a government form letter explaining that their beloved child has succumbed to their affliction.
