After their son was born, Ashley said Elon made several unusual requests, including insisting that the baby be delivered via C-section. He reportedly believed that a vaginal birth might restrict brain development and that C-sections allow for larger brains.
After the child was born or conceived?

(3,418 posts)head circumference is what it is. A c-section does not influence head circumference or brain size. If this story is true it points to an astounding misunderstanding of growth and development. What Musk seems to be misinterpreting is the fact that the birth canal does place some restrictions on head size at time of birth - hence human babies are born in a relatively undeveloped state compared to other mammals - and the brains of human beings have explosive growth after birth. For example, a baby horse can stand and run not too long after birth. A human being stays pretty helpless for much longer. Nature has a balance between optimizing human brain size and gestational duration. Now having said that, it is possible that some babies have unusually large heads - and a doctor (may) suggest a c-section. However, large head size doesn't mean more intelligent unless making crude inter-species comparisons. An extra large head may just as well indicate severe deficits. Of everything I've heard regarding Musk, this story alone if true, shows that Musk is not particularly intelligent because be has conflated a topic of evolutionary biology with a medical procedure. Once again, why can't these billionaires stay in their lane?
