That Cardinal Dolan be the next Pope.
Good luck with that. The college of cardinals shy away from selecting a pope from a super power country. They will further shy away from one in a country that is a hot mess.
That probably won't stop him from sending JD Dunce over to Italy a couple of times.

(18,690 posts)Popes, or the politics of the Vatican. But I am worried that powerful politicians could influence the selection of the next Pope. Hopefully, maybe that is an irrational fear I should put out of my mind.
Maybe Pope Francis left his colleagues with a good idea of who or what he wants in his successor. Is that possible?
Is this likely to be a long, complicated and (political) process? Or will predominantly spiritual and institutional concerns dominate?

(28,507 posts)No outside contact allowed. There are both liberal and conservative cardinals but Francis appointed a majority of the current group so hopefully theyll elect a liberal Pope.

(16,407 posts)Cardinal Dolan is not one of them. Trump will be ignored by the Conclave. It will upset Trump, but the Conclave will never vote a Pope who is pushed by an outsider.

(32,767 posts)will probably be good for getting a more liberal pope. Were the cardinals to actually listen to Krasnov (they won't) it would turn millions of people away from the church.

(34,999 posts)Just under 10% of Ukrainians are Catholic. The vast majority are Orthodox Christian. Out of that 10%, there's probably only a handful of clergy for any choices.
