Your premise is that the goppers/magats/etc. have always had a negative view of empathy and a positive one for $$$. erronis Apr 2025 #5

We haven't, as a society, forgotten empathy and compassion for the poor, marginalized, and dispossessed. Every time someone tries to do something to help, a cabal of Republicans gets in the way (sometimes including a Democrat or two -- looking at you, Manchin and Sinema). I can't think of anything Republicans have ever done for anyone that doesn't involve giving themselves and their constituents more money or power.

I agree totally.

It wouldn't surprise me if some time in the future the sociologists (or anthropologists/archeologists) don't determine that, in the era of homo dominance, around 30% of the human species was born with deficiencies in caring for others, etc. and a tendency to work against fairness and justice. Long-winded and run-on but basically perhaps 30% of us are destined to be assholes.
