Everything Trump gets away with another Republican president will also get away with in the future. If Trump shreds the Bill of Rights for American citizens, other Republicans will follow suit. That should scare the shit out of everyone.
Perhaps that is the Republicans long game.

This is why the world no longer has any confidence in the US.

(9,150 posts)as so many of us have said here before. Because they "cut a deal" to avoid prosecution by having him resign with the promise that they wouldn't prosecute for his crimes once he left office it forged the pathway for subsequent people like Reagan and Bush. They began to act with impunity knowing they could do a combination of laying it off on others while claiming ignorance and the canard of executive privilege. Then after the underlings are convicted they pardon them on the way out the door and then go write their memoirs.
The plain fact is that Nixon, Kissinger, Reagan and Bush were responsible for the death squads in Central America that killed thousands of innocent people. The terror and intimidation was their point. Even if they could claim not knowing about the initial killings they have no defense for continuing to support those death squads subsequent to knowing they had committed these acts. They poured in money, weapons and training.

(5,545 posts)And when you are forced into choosing a 78 year old candidate in marginal physical and mental health, you damn sure have a long game.
Another thing, the current situation with Mr Ábrego García, in my opinion, is in large part about proving that the president doesn't have to follow the rulings of the justice department. He wants to be a king in an absolute monarchy. In my opinion, one of the many reasons that Republicans are still supporting Trump is that they want the same kingly powers for Republican presidents in the future.
Also, look at the below links on Mr Ábrego García. These are on the official US government website. If anyone doubts that the propagandization of US citizens is less than full throttle, these should dissuade you from your delusions.
