protection order of members of the media from having their phone records seized. Bondis new orders will seize phone records of the reporters or have them forced to testify in conjunction with any investigation of leaking information from any administration officials.
Boy, they are all so evil! The word of an anonymous source is going out the window with this administration! This is just another example of dictatorship!
I just have to wonder why they are so afraid of the leaks? What are they doing criminally wrong? Oh so many things are so wrong with this administration! This takes away the ability to do what the media does best to get information from sources and to alarm the public of nefarious activities from the administration! So, lets look at chapter 1 of Signalgate? It was their own mistake bringing in a media reporter to the illegal activity of telling sensitive information over an unsecured phone. Now jumping to chapters 2 & 3, Hegseth is the leaker! What will they do with that? Another point, what if the administration leaks something on purpose and it blows up in the faces, who will they go after for that leak? Amazing how much they hate freedom of the press!
Story from the Gaurdian.

Laughing and smiling as she talks about giving someone a death penalty.
Her hatred and anger at the country judge.
Obvious lying at the drop of a hat.

(8,758 posts)Absolutely nothing will happen to these people. We will be too busy trying to rebuild the country infrastructure that I doubt there will be any efforts to investigate and prosecute the likes of Bondi,Patel and others.
They know it and act with impunity.

(389 posts)chance that Trump will ever give up power. When he gets too old, he will just pass the torch to someone as bad. Martial law!

(22,218 posts)it's awfully hard to give it up. The right and Republicans don't have the scruples for that. For all practical purposes, we're at the absolute power stage.

(22,218 posts)I think a whole lot of folks have discovered that letting things slide for the good of the country isn't for the good of the country. But will we play by their rules in order to save the country? Probably not. We'll continue to bring knives to gun fights.
We may never get an opportunity to rebuild what once was. That first "letting them get away with it" may be irrecoverable. Biden's Justice Dept. may have fiddled and now it's too late. If so, history will not be terribly kind, nor should it be. Honestly, I don't think the country will survive all this in its current form. We're less than 1/3 of the way into the first of 4+ years and so much is going straight to hell. What that new form will be, I don't know, but I do think the current state is unsustainable. If you think enough Republicans will impeach and save the status quo we grew up in, forget it. Article 1, Section 3 of our very own Constitution, coupled with current politics won't allow that to happen. Khrushchev may be right. We collapsed from within. Undone by our own people and flaws in our own system.
It's natural to think what we've known is static, but think again. I'm reminded of George Washington's transformation. In the 1760's he had a few beefs with the British Army and wasn't all that fond of Parliament's stamp and sugar acts, but like his ancestors he was as staunchly loyal to the British Crown as ever. If you'd told him in 1765 that in 10 years he'd be in command of a rebel army opposing the British Crown he'd have thought you'd lost your mind. I don't think we'll repeat a bloody war, but I do think things will be a whole lot different by 2030. Some things for the good. Some not.

(27,633 posts)Freedom of the press means the right for media outlets (newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, online) to publish information, opinions, and ideas without censorship or interference from the government. It ensures the free flow of information to the public, allowing citizens to be informed and hold their leaders accountable.
Protection of sources:
Journalists can protect the identities of their sources, even if those sources are whistleblowers.
Whistleblowers are individuals who share information about a private or public organizations illegal, unsafe, or unethical actions. Theyre usually employees of that organization. Because whistleblowers are at risk of retaliation from their organization, many countries have established protections. In 2019, the European Parliament approved new whistleblower rules protecting those who disclose information on illegal or harmful activities. Theyre allowed to disclose information internally or externally, but if no appropriate action is taken, the whistleblower is still protected if they disclose information publicly. Public disclosure usually means going to a journalist. Freedom of the press gives journalists and publications the right to protect a whistleblowers identity.
