https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/vehicle-hits-crowd-filipino-festival-lapu-lapu-day-block-party-1.7519778Eleven people have been killed and multiple others injured after the driver of a black SUV slammed into a crowd Saturday evening at a street festival in Vancouver celebrating the contributions of the Filipino Canadian community, police say.
It happened shortly after 8 p.m. PT, as the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party was winding down, after drawing up to 100,000 people through the day.
The vehicle that struck festival-goers approached the festival area from the west on East 43rd Avenue. It entered a small crowd, an enclosed area, and drove through the crowd. There were hundreds of festival-goers still on the street and multiple people were struck by the vehicle," Steve Rai, interim Vancouver police chief, told reporters on Sunday.
The person we have in custody does have a significant history of interactions with police and health-care professionals related to mental health," he told a briefing on Sunday.

They're about to have an election and for Canada, we want the RED side to win.

Also, unless police have released informaiton on the perp, who says the perp was from Canada?

(3,707 posts)Notice though that I did not make any sort of positive claim in that regard, but you ARE making one. What is the proof this guy is not a xenophobic wingnut? And let me also say that in no way, shape or form, are the statuses of 'extreme wingnuts' and 'Known to police and health care pros for mental illness' mutually exclusive, so AFAIK, I'm not 'proven wrong' by that observation. If you have more to share about what you know about this guy that would exclude this man from the 'wingnut' category, please feel free to share. I'm not there in CA, and I assume you are, and are probably getting more details than I am

(60,320 posts)Yes, you did make a positive claim, bassackwards backing into it to try to maintain "plausible deniability".

(3,707 posts)Bernardo OTOH expressed that I am OUTRIGHT 'proven wrong'. His words. So I was inquiring as to what HIS proof was for claiming I'm 'proven wrong'. The observation that this happened at a specific, foreign-culture based event (as opposed to, say, Mardi Gras), along with the 'troubled individual' storyline, made me suspicious. I don't think unreasonably so, but nonetheless, I did not CLAIM that 'I knew', whereas Bernardo did claim to know. Hence my question. There are really just a couple of basic logical syllogisms in play here, that I would hope I would not have to explain, but it seems so
Bernardo de La Paz

(60,320 posts)Okay, I see better now how the conversation went.

(3,707 posts)and then when the authorities asked why and the criminal told them 'man I hate all spics and beaners, I wanna to rid the world of them all!' they'd probably send 'em to the mental health folks for an assessment. I mean, I hope they would, really. So this is what I meant by both things could be true.

You make a big mistake if you think Canadians behave like maga or make automatic assumptions generally. Of course a few do, but not most.
