On this date in 1945, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini was executed. Happy 80th anniversary to all those who celebrate.

Got another happy 80th anniversary coming up in two days.

"It didn't end well for Mussolini when he tried it" accompanied by that picture of Mussolini's corpse hanging upside-down amid euphoric Italians.

I’m down with celebrating the “Fin de Benito” but I long for NEW holidays to celebrate.

His body was then transported to Milan, where he was hung up with some others in a gas station.

They really went through some effort to bring his body back and hang it in public.

Several northern cities weren't officially liberated until April 29, 1945.

In a history that's still very vague among Americans, despite huge numbers of Italian Americans, including many who came in the 1960s, Italy was in a state of civil war from September 8, 1943 to April 25-30, 1945.

The Italians are the only people to have executed their own dictator in WWII.

Thank you for bringing this to DU!
