(53,397 posts)Fuck you. We've come to appreciate and enjoy all the wonderful things we have here - Molson beer, Crown Royal, poutine, Kraft Dinner, pet moose, fried walleye, legal weed, Hockey Night in Canada, Timbits and tax-paid healthcare. All those would end if we became your 51st state. Besides, in case you hadn't noticed you couldn't make Canada one state. It's too fucking big. It's bigger than the entire United States. It would become the states of Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Nunavut, Yukon and the Northwest Territories. All thirteen of your new states would vote solidly Democratic just to piss you off and turn your shitty party into the minority it should have been all along. If you made us be Americans, the first two things we'd do are impeach your stupid ass and turn ourselves back into Canada.
So drop this shit now. You have plenty of things to do without trying to turn countries that don't want to be states into states.

(6,573 posts)The NDP party (left of centre) held power from 2015 to 2019 and a recent & popular mayor of Calgary was recently selected as leader of the party.
The Progressive Conservatives (right of centre) now in office are generally IMO not that much farther to the right politically than the US Democratic party. IOWs there would be a good chance that a US state of Alberta (ugg, sorry) would vote Democratic.

(6,573 posts)Danielle Smith is a winger alright. Sure, there are red-necks here but they are in a small majority and only get noticed when they make noise (such as truck convoys and Ottawa bashing).

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
