(297,980 posts)Labor has pledged that it intends to make it easier for young people to buy their first home. Albanese has also made a number of other promises, including a 20 percent cut to student debt.
So the focus has very much been on key domestic issues.
That perhaps makes this loss doubly embarrassing for the main opposition as they are often seen as the better economic managers,
and the fact that they lost an election that was very much fought on those issues will certainly raise some questions for them.

Labour 83. - the rest 35
What. A. Night. I dont think many of us can say we saw that result coming.
Thats where well leave you for tonight, thank you so much for following us on the blog.
Heres what we learned this Saturday 3 May:
Labor has achieved an emphatic win, with strong swings for the party across all states and territories.
Labor has secured majority government, securing at least 86 seats.
Anthony Albanese was overjoyed and became emotional during his victory speech, promising to govern for every Australian.
Peter Dutton has lost his seat of Dickson to the Labor challenger, Ali France.
Dutton apologised for the result, conceding it is not our night, as Liberal party faithful say there will need to be a hard look at what went wrong for the LNP, which recorded a historic loss.
Thanks Slobby Donvict, Musk et al 😂😂😂
