My YouTube feed seems to be a frenzy rife with clickbaits & conspiracies re the Conclave & Cardinal TAGLE

Obviously, there are some fairly objective journalistic types pointing out that there are factions of Progressive vs Wingnut candidates in the competition. But there seems to be a flurry concentrated on TAGLE, some favorable about his being a protege of Francis and possessing personal qualities of kindness and relatability and connections to the under-served, some negative re his rapid career rise.

Some of the most unfavorable seem to come from ETWN, the Wingnut factions that branch out into conspiracy theorizing. There's the ever popular Nostradamus, who "is said" to have fit Francis and TAGLE into the mix of "a man from the East, dressed in red, in a time of global fear and unrest." The more I see about TAGLE the more I'm inclined toward him, so my jinx talent is that it won't be him.

A couple of conspiracy theories are that Francis was sped on the way to kicking it because a hospital doctor O.K.ed his discharge too soon, her being a woman now disappeared into secrecy. Uh, the man was very advanced in age, how long do they demand that he was to live, especially with a history of bad medical conditions? And the Secretary of State frontrunner recently had a medical emergency sort of ruling him out by the clickbaits for being expected to kick it soon, plus being named Peter, who "is said" to fit the prophecy of the Middle Ages mystic, who said that the last pope would be "Peter of Rome." But another contender is also named Peter, who is from Guinea and might also become "Peter of Rome," and it might just be me but this seems to be a racist code attempting to rule out a Black cardinal.

*** I'm Lapsed, so don't matter, but obviously favor having a Lib, my only one being John XXIII, who opened things up more than the ones who came after - O.K.ing the languages besides Latin, turning the altar around to face the people, loosening up the dietary restrictions, generally being more relatable. So it's been only his five years of near liberality out of my 78 years. Although Pius XII for my first ten years set my mark for what a pope should look like, and I don't want to get into the allegations - pro and con - about collaboration. It's like today all "heroes" have been toppled by exposure in YouTubes of their human frailties of their times - FDR, everybody. Am not going to get into tangents about others, am just struck by the frenzy on the conclave, and how our public discourse is an anthill war from all sides.

Here's my collection of John XXIII medals culled from eBay and such, and I wear one with my dog tag and Mati eye.

3. EWTN was a shitshow long before the death of Pope Francis...

...but you're right that since his death, there has been constant editorializing and sniping from them. EWTN is the network for Catholic radtrads (and only radtrads); they have a hatred of modernity that is really pathological. If anyone is promoting schism in the Church today, it's EWTN. They are highly vertically integrated; they own the National Catholic Register (not to be confused with the National Catholic Reporter), a book publisher, and a radio network in addition to cable and satellite TV channels. They are so ubiquitous as to become a sort of "private Magisterium" that often (most of the time) causes conflicts both inside and outside the Church.

...on her Fox "News" show, you'll get the basic idea of what EWTN is about. Arroyo is the director for EWTN's own "news" organization. In some ways, it's even worse than Fox, and Arroyo's consistently smug delivery is a big part of that.

9. Well, while I tiny sample a very few wingnuts, the ones like deceased LIMBAUGH, *never*

the kneejerkers like INGRAHAM, HANNITY, and the rest of the Faux Propaganda Network lineup. Analyzing LIMBAUGH and O'REILLY was infuriating but their tricks and seeming originality would keep me on my toes. The kneejerkers are a waste. I'm more entertained by wrestling with the ones who are supposedly on "our side," like Tweety (Chris MATTHEWS) from the past and now MAHER. Tweety was never that much on our side, but that's a long story. And I did my MSNBC duty from when it started, but less and less of the most party line ones whom I agree with and tell us what we want to hear. For a couple of years it's been almost exclusive a la carte short videos from YouTube, a few podcasters.

I learned to pronounce CHENEY as "CHEENEE" from Tweety and INGRAHAM as "IN-GRA-HAM" from somewhere. But the bane of our CLINTON years, David BROCK's book Blinded By the Right, was a fun expose of the early troglodytes - how INGRAHAM would crawl on barroom floors, held a gun to the head of a guy who ditched her, how she wore tiger striped tights to interviews for t.v., how she and *boyfriend!* Dinesh D'SOUSA would Out people at Brown University Dartmouth College with posters, how she boasted of all the secrets she knew about LIMBAUGH and other wingnuts; how DRUDGE courted BROCK with bouquets; how COULTERgeist lived on wine and cigarettes. Now it's been years since INGRAHAM's Gay brother outed her abusiveness and their father as a Nazi. Plus, back in the late '90s she converted to Catholicism during the wave when it was a fad for CIA/FBI spooks were doing it, and such 'wingers as Robert NOVAKula, them joining Opus Dei. In the first fever of conversion, she dropped her profile to being saintly and quieting down her hate speech for a couple of years, and she advertised donating sales of a crucifix to The Little Sisters of the Poor. I emailed the head Sister asking why a supposed convert showed so little spirituality or Imitation of Christ and asked about donations. The Sister was scandalized, said she had never heard of INGRAHAM or her donations and would look into it.

So, no, I don't watch INGRAHAM and I grew up with the heavy EWTN, pre-John XXIII mental suffocation, so never will. As I say, I can tolerate exposure of *some* horrible people for the sake of skewering their tricks and games, but not others. HANNITY is straight out of the Dark Ages of the church - verbally rattling off the indoctrination like what set off the Crusades.

...who founded EWTN. She died in 2016.

The old-fashioned habit was a bit of cosplay on her part, I think. She and the other nuns at EWTN started wearing those ridiculous costumes after the 1993 World Youth Day. Mother Angelica apparently got totally discombobulated about a female actor portraying Christ in an Easter Passion play, and the result was that everyone had to go back to a dress code from the 1800s. I can only wonder what she would have said about the musical Jesus Christ Superstar--she was certainly old enough to remember it!

I spent 12 years in Catholic schools. By 1966 nuns had adopted the newer look - habits that were essentially black dresses veils that were essentially hats with a tail. And they had become more active in the secular world. The last nuns I met (I assume they were nuns - it was at a Catholic youth program that a friend talked me into - we were teaching 9-10 year olds basic sewing) were wearing simple dark clothing - even pants - with an understated cross.

Google owns Android. Google owns Chrome. Everything you do on any of them, Google knows.

On YouTube, every time you see something in your feed that you don't like, tap or click the three dots. Then tap or click the "not interested" option.

On Facebook click the three dots and choose "Hide all from ..." or "Hide this ad." If you get another list, choose "Irrelevant" as the reason, then click or Tap "Hide all..."

Do this every time you see something you don't want. If you do that every time, you'll see fewer and fewer of those things. It works.

10. The prophecy is getting a lot of attention

Though people originally believed that Francis would be the last pope. Now they're twisting it to be the next person. People will continue to play with the numbers because it's a little tricky to count popes because of issues with individuals hundreds of years ago.

I don't think the prophecy is meant to target Peter from Guinea. People have been kicking around this prophecy for many years. The cardinal named Peter that's from Italy is actually getting more attention from the conspiracists.

Also, St. Malachy wasn't some "mystic." He's a canonized Irish saint. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Malachy

I think there's two things that can happen that would alarm people. A new pope is not selected before some cataclysm. The next pope picks the name Peter. That one would make people crazy.

11. I'm Lapsed and never got the carpet bomb indoctrination of Catholic schooling,

so I don't speak the authorized jargon ("mystic, saint " ), just use the words at the commonest level to get my gist across. I'm interested in the topic because it's out there in the global echo village. My Lapsed condition is that I don't subscribe to the ideology and certainly not to the "prophecies" that I didn't compose and don't have to keep straight in how the Peter names are chosen after the fact. All that is hoohey to me, there/I've said it under duress. My opinion is as worthless as anybody's so my impression is that some of the whispering "prophecies" are dog whistles to undermine a Black candidate. The Italian Peter is the one with a medical event and age being whistled against. The Conservatives seem threatened most by TAGLE.

Am not asking for permission to spout. Am not the one to count angels on pinheads with or against.

I find it fascinating politically, and although it's not called politics, it very much is.

I agree that Tagle is probably threatening to some. He's from outside of Europe and appears to be like Francis.

Another interesting side story from this is to see if anyone takes the name Francis 2. Is it a rebuke if they don't? What does it mean if they do? Either way, plenty for the talking heads to occupy themselves with.
