wtf? 92% of Republicans, 85% of third party voters satisfied with their votes.

92% of Trump voters are satisfied with their vote. More than that, the PRRI poll finds that just about everybody who voted in November is satisfied with their decision, including 95% of Harris voters and 85% of people who voted third party.
But PRRI’s poll is consistent with a poll released April 14 by the University of Massachusetts Amherst that found that only 2% of Trump voters polled answered yes to “I regret my vote and would vote differently if I could.” And both those polls are consistent with a survey The New York Times conducted among a focus group last month that found that none of the 13 independent voters who voted for Trump in November regrets not voting for Harris.
Not the person who feels “bad” about the way things have been going. Or the one who’s “frustrated,” or the ones who feel “pessimistic,” “worried,” “hopeless” or even “lied to.”
“There’s a lot of social media saying: Hey, are you Republicans or MAGA people regretting your vote?” a “hopeful” 55-year-old Latino restaurant manager said. “And no, I’m not. As far as I’m concerned, he’s not doing enough.”
When you read that Times piece, you may find yourself most struck by the 29-year-old Black construction manager in Texas who said he’s happy that Trump has kept his promises, if only because the Texan then says, “Although these are some hard decisions — a couple of friends that have been deported, stuff like that. So I’m sad at the same time.”
It must warm his deported friends’ hearts to hear that their buddy is kinda sad.
I wasted my hard-earned money on some forgettable thing when I was young, and when I turned to my mom for comfort, all she did was shrug and say, “Bought sense is the best sense.” I’ve come to agree with that, but I’ve also learned that a costly mistake doesn’t necessarily confer sense upon the person who made it.

They are as likely to admit their vote was wrong as Trump is to admit he's a bad President. In other words the possibility of that is somewhere between zero and zero. Whoever did polls about buyer's remorse with Trump voters wasted their time doing it and is wasting everyone's time reporting on it. Remember that these are the same people who have been breathlessly waiting for the "END TIMES!!" for two thousand fucking years and have been misidentifying various people/countries as the "Anti-Christ" for two thousand years and keep trying it over and over.

When you ask 'so which is it' you're assuming it's either or and that both can't be true at once.

But they can be. Trump's ratings can collapse and people still not regret voting for him. They are not the same thing.

Therefore, it's perfectly reasonable that approval could be down but people still do not regret voting for him. It certainly doesn't prove that it isn't trustworthy... only that you're confusing the two.

between asking trump voters if they regret their vote and asking them whether they approve of the way he's handling certain issues. I talked to a trump voter the other day who would never admit he made a mistake with his vote, but did admit there were things trump has done that he didn't agree with, or were done in too haphazard a way.

Overall the only thing a majority of US citizens approve of is his handling of the border, while they disapprove of his handling of immigration/deportation.

We need to remember that he barely won, and didn't have 50% of the vote. He doesn't have far to fall to have a negative rating issue by issue.

Asking someone who they voted for and then whether they regret that vote is basically asking them to lie twice. The top line moves of multiple polls do not match the results of polls like this one. Someone is not telling the pollsters the truth, and I tend to believe someone’s opinion of where they are on Trump right now over the answers to a series of questions that basically are a push poll.

That said, these kind of polls are very scary to the investment community, because they are saying that there are no guardrails for Trump where he could lose his base’s support. Investors can pull out easily, and a capital flight is a real risk.

...businesses which import a great deal of their parts or other inventory from overseas. I work in audio engineering, and I can tell you that as soon as Trump started his ridiculous trade wars, all the big parts suppliers like Digi-Key and Mouser started putting up notices on their websites about the Trumptax. I was just on both of those sites today, and now when you go to order parts, there is a little table with the tariff surcharges next to the actual base price. The buyer gets to see in a really obvious way the bite the Trumptax is taking--and for absolutely nothing in return.

The only real hope for the MAGA chuds to see reason on this issue is if they either own a business themselves or keep the books for an employer. That will make the effects of the Trumptax impossible to ignore--especially if it results in layoffs or bankruptcy.

I’d give in to despair, but it’s still early in Donnie’s first year.

I’ve come to believe that with many voters, the only thing that’s going to wise them up is serious pain, particularly after the R’s get through tearing up the social safety nets. I also think Donnie’s actions are going to cause a recession, but crashing an economy a nd ending Biden prosperity is going to take a while. The US economy is a big thing and has a lot of inertia. It’ll be a while for the MAGA Magoos to lose their jobs, lose their savings, and then find themselves homeless, sick and hungry.

Sweet reason, patriotism and appeals to common decency might not get through to them. Further, I suspect that a plurality will remain MAGA. But some will prove reachable when they experience more real life.

23. MAJOR problems with this poll.
Sun May 4, 2025, 06:58 PM
May 2025

First of all, I've never heard of the Public Religion Research Institute. I don't think they fall into the category of "respected pollster". More importantly, the poll was conducted between February 28 & March 20. In other words some of the poll answers are 2 1/2 months old at this point and ALL of the responses are at least 1 1/2 months old. Trumps worst offenses have occurred during the past month and it was only in the past 3 weeks or so that his approval ratings from legitimate pollsters nosedived. If that question was asked today, there would certainly be many more regretting their vote. The majority of Trump voters are never going to regret their vote (even if he ordered all their families to be deported to El Salvador or gunned down by ICE - it's a god damn cult), but there would definitely be a more significant percentage of non-cult people regretting their vote at this point.

As proof, the Website VoteHub aggregates polls and unlike what 538 did or what RCP does, they always exclude polls that don't meet their standards from the aggregate. When this poll started, VoteHub's aggregate showed Trump with a +1.4% favorability. By the last day of the polling period, it had fallen to -1.3%. Still not so bad numbers for Trump. In the time since, Trump's aggregate favorability has dropped to -7.5% - a HUGE drop that this poll did not have an opportunity to reflect.

The only reason to publish an analysis of such an old poll now and present it as it represents current opinion is actually quite reprehensible and journalistic malpractice. The only reason do do such a thing is to try to create a fake narrative. MSNBC should be ashamed to publish such garbage.

when Axios somehow labelled this poll as an "exclusive". That was quite a popular reporting of it (perhaps because Axios led with 52% agreeing that Trump "is a dangerous dictator whose power should be limited before he destroys American democracy". )

The MSNBC article didn't note that "among those who did not vote in the 2024 presidential election, 56% say they are satisfied with their decision, while 31% express regret." Which may explain the decline in Trump's support; those who made an active choice by voting for him (or 3rd parties) will try and justify their vote for longer than people who didn't do something - humans are more likely to acknowledge an error in not doing something than in an active choice they made.

Most have not been affected yet. They don’t care if their brown neighbors and colleagues get deported. They don’t care if some small business owner goes under, if it’s not them. They think price increases will be small and temporary, manufacturing will come back, and good jobs will come to their hick towns overnight.

They love to see government employees losing their jobs. They never had it that good. They don’t care if some Veteran they don’t know can’t access care because the hospital is closed. Their disability checks are still showing up.

They just don’t care about anyone but themselves. Other people’s struggles are entertainment. So far, so good, according to them. Their lives haven’t changed. Yet.

Truthfully, it’s the red states and the rural areas that are being hurt more and will be hurt in the future. With the Medicaid cuts, rural hospitals will be shut down.

segment of the scam where they've handed their money over to the scam artist and now they're sitting back and waiting on the return. At this point, of course they're not regretting anything. They made a decision which they think is going to bring them riches. They're excited to see the return on their investment.

It will take different amounts of time for these people to realize (once again) that they've been had. But this also explains why Trump's approval ratings are low, and yet people don't regret their vote.

It's like they're at the stage where they've handed over their money to the scam artist, and now they can't get hold of him. They don't approve of the fact that the scam artist hasn't called them, and they don't approve of the fact that the scam artist isn't returning their emails, but they still don't regret their decision because this amazing business opportunity is definitely going to make them rich.

I believe the word for this is "suckers."

People that really oppose the things Trump is doing would have supported the democrat even if you were not happy with them.

Most Trump voters that are upset with him are those that have been directly affected such as the doge firings. If they were not fired yet they would still support it.

Some of those on the right are displeased with Trump for not deporting millions as he'd promised.

This country REALLY IS that divided.

Talking to my grandson 28 who didn't vote but is ok with Trump I asked him who he reads and he said people on X didn't say who but I imagine people who convinced him people on the left are shit.

He just moved to Minneapolis and I said I love the gov there. He said I don't like the guy. But couldn't tell me why.

Since before the election in 2016, right up until today,, there have been countless reports that this or that group of Trump supporters are turning on him. It has turned out of be false every time.

Today I heard a MAGA explain to a group that the tariffs are going to be great. The country has to pay them to do business in the USA. I am waiting. Next week or so it's going to set in. I have a stall at the local flee market. I have 3 houses full of knicknacks. Most of the others have Temu and Wish stuff from China and when reality hits, it should be a pretty good show.

We're barely three months in. It can takes years for people to sour on a president. It'll probably happen sooner with Trump (there are already indicators that people are turning) but these things can take time.

58. Here's the problem: Magas, Trump voters are NOT Democrats. Don't think, act, or make choices like Democrats.
Mon May 5, 2025, 09:10 AM
May 2025

We need to stop thinking that they would make the same rational choices regarding Trump and what he is doing by our standards. It's not going to happen likely even with time.
This is the America in which we now live. There are red states and blue states and swing states. Wisconsin is likely the #1 swing state and we voted twice for Obama, once for Biden (a male who beat Trump) and twice for Trump (what was the common denominator in those Trump wins?)
Republicans, Independents who lean right neither think nor make choices like Democrats do and we need to face reality and stop pretending that just because we think something or someone is great that they will as well. Most of them will not.

People believe they made an informed choice. Turns out they were wrong and are now unhappy with the direction the country is taking. However, they believe they made the right decision in November with the information they had at the time.
