https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/may/04/trump-tariffs-foreign-moviesDonald Trump on Sunday announced on his Truth Social platform a 100% tariff on all movies produced in Foreign Lands, saying the US film industry was dying a very fast death due to the incentives that other countries were offering to draw American film-makers.
In his post, he claimed to have authorised the commerce department and the US trade representative to immediately begin instituting such a tariff.
This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat, Trump said in the Truth Social post. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda!
WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN! Trump added.
Commerce secretary Howard Lutnick posting on X said: Were on it. Neither Lutnick nor Trump provided any details on the implementation. It was not immediately clear whether the move would target production companies, foreign or American, producing films overseas.

(4,016 posts)This is an ENTIRELY unworkable concept, if for no other reason, because the very term 'movie' does not actually have a hard, empirical definition. Neither does the term 'produced in another country' for that matter. Neither is the definition of what constitutes this content 'crossing the border', because guess what, old man? 'The Pictures' aren't put on cellulose roles and carried to the theaters in vans and trucks anymore cuz it's not the early 1900's anymore asshole
But hey Donnie, tell you what? Call up Bezos and see what he thinks about idea that every time a Prime customer streams a video 'produced in a foreign country', Amazon is responsible for paying tariffs on that viewing. See what he says.
In the real world, the complexities in the implementation needed for what this dipshit is suggesting means any such 'tariff' would be tied up in courts for many years.

The wall the Mexicans were going to pay for? It wasn't/isn't simply to keep 'the invaders' out. It's to isolate Americans, wall us in with the constant roar of lies and chaos.
Think North Korea. They want us all on our knees worshiping the source of our own demise.
