If it's the flu shot developed by a Krasnov doctor. The flu shot will be one that was developed in the 1940's and abandoned because of newer vaccines.
The flu vaccine being developed is based on old science and makes a guess which strain of flu will be around and if they don't guess right the shot is worthless.

(69,364 posts)From the article: Their vaccine is made by inactivating influenza viruses with a carcinogenic chemical called beta-propiolactone. Scientists have used the chemical to neutralize viruses since at least the 1950s. This whole-virus inactivation method, mostly using other chemicals, was the standard way to make flu vaccines into the 1970s, when it was modified, partly because whole-virus vaccines caused high fevers or even seizures in children.
I almost wonder if they're deliberately trying to get adverse effects so that they can prove that vaccines are dangerous?
RFK, Jr. is insane.

(37,113 posts)In the news release, HHS described the vaccine as in advanced trials and said it would induce robust responses and long-lasting protection. But Taubenberger and his colleagues havent published a complete human study of the vaccine yet. A study showing the vaccine protected mice from the flu appeared in 2022.

(46,140 posts)A more complete quote: "Clinical trials for universal influenza vaccines are scheduled to begin in 2026, with FDA approval targeted for 2029. The intranasal BPL-1357 flu vaccine, currently in advanced trials, is also on track for FDA review by 2029.

Also the trials for the intranasal vaccine began in 2022. https://globalbiodefense.com/2022/06/28/us-begins-phase-1-clinical-trial-of-universal-flu-vaccine/
To the extent the OP and some of the comments in this thread may dissuade people from getting a flu shot this year, they are doing a grave disservice to folks.

(347 posts)Sounds more like sour grapes (over funding) more than anything else. The flue vaccine has always been a crapshoot. Last years was mediocre at best. This coming years has already been decided. Dont let the fear mongers lead you to making bad decisions. Its going to be same partially effective crapshoot we have become used to.

(46,140 posts)The initiative described in the linked article is to develop a "universal" flu vaccine based on old technology. A bad idea.
But the current vaccines being recommended for this season are NOT vaccines based on the old technology. Sometimes it helps to go to the source, which in this case is the statement announcing the 'universal' vaccine initiative, which indicates that "Clinical trials for universal influenza vaccines are scheduled to begin in 2026, with FDA approval targeted for 2029. The intranasal BPL-1357 flu vaccine, currently in advanced trials, is also on track for FDA review by 2029."
If you don't want to get the flu vaccine this fall, that's your individual decision. But sharing incomplete and misleading information that might cause others not to get a flu shot is just as irresponsible as the nonsense being spewed by RFK, Jr.
You should update your post to make clear the new "universal" vaccine being discussed isn't this year's vaccine.

How bad would you feel if your post convinced an elderly DUer to skip the vaccine based on your misinformation, and they got seriously ill, hospitalized or died?
BTW, every year, scientists make their best guess as to which strains will be most prevalent- thats nothing new.
