House Republicans were blasted Monday for pushing forward a law opponents say is designed to hobble agencies responsible for keeping food and drugs safe.
The criticism came as the GOP looks to move forward with the REINS Act, according to a report from Politico.
Short for Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny, the act would require federal agencies to get Congressional approval before adopting new rules.
This would include rules overseeing public health, food safety, environmental protection, health care, and more.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) believes that Republicans are trying to handcuff the agencies that work to make sure that our food and drugs are safe and our air and water are clean.

(22,985 posts)overall, the GQP are heading the good ole USA into total destruction. If because of this, the wealthy will be in world of hurt just like the rest of us. But I am assuming that the wealthy seems it can't happen to them.
Kinda reminds of the people who voted for shithole and their logic that he would not fuck them but only screw the opposition.

(15,321 posts)The fact is that the wealthy will be insulated from all of this. To a billionaire, everything they want is essentially free. Such wealth can be structured so that it's never touched by living expenses, even if it's "high on the hog." An industry will be born that caters only to them with its own private testing and quality control. If their steak and lobster dinner costs $1,500 per plate, no problem. It's "free" to a billionaire.

(11,212 posts)Not only is the GOP undoing modern regulations but they are attacking Theodore Roosevelts foundational regulatory measures.
TR would give these GOP nitwits a swift kick in the behind.

(26,081 posts)They also want to stop SS, Medicare and Medicaid so that when we get sick we can't afford healthcare and will die quicker. They also want to stop free education and everything that government does for the common folks - again this is a huge source of money for the reich wing oligarchs to plunder for their murderous and grossly self=enriching fantasies.

(7,078 posts)Then it has to go to the house to get final approval. Times lots of agencies and regulations.
I guess the house has nothing to do these days.
