(1,831 posts)I am old enough to remember VE Day and VJ Day.
Our Prez seems to believe WWII ended on VE Day.
Oh well! I guess my Dad and everyone else who served in the Pacific Theater are just losers and suckers.
I believe the Marines my Dad helped land and later medically evacuated from Iwo Jima and Okinawa would beg to differ.
My Dad was home on 30 days leave prior to returning for the invasion of Japan. He was standing on the local swimming pools high diving board when the news came of Japans surrender. He belly flopped spectacularly!🤣

The 80th is a major commemoration obviously, so this way street parties, the parade,etc. can be held with a large number of people able to observe/participate if they so desire.
