Meanwhile, Harris seems just fine. And she is totally free of the stress of dealing with MAGAts that would have relentlessly tried to tear her down at every move.

(35,179 posts)I'm so happy to see her out, celebrating men of fashion (the dandy theme) including the great André Leon Talley, donating to a good cause and especially having fun spreading her joy.
I love her.
Thanks for everything, Kamala.

~generation of AI fun facts, I'm lazy editon~
The cost of entry to the 2025 Met Gala for an individual is $75,000. Tables for multiple guests start at $350,000. The proceeds from ticket sales go to the costume institute.
A standard adult ticket to the **Metropolitan Museum of Art** costs **$25**, but visitors can pay what they wish. The museum generates revenue from admissions, but this only makes up **about 14%** of its **$300 million budget**.
The Met is a **non-profit institution**, meaning most of its funding comes from **private donations, grants, and endowments**. The **City of New York** also provides financial support. Other revenue sources include **membership fees, retail sales, and auxiliary activities**.
Ever been to the Met? Its a treasure trove of art spanning **5,000 years**definitely worth a visit! 🎨
Tariffs on fun, art and fashion incoming in 3..2..1..

(57,797 posts)and most of those grants have been cancelled. Plus Trump is intent on abolishing both the NEA and NEH.
The Mets advantage is that they have a lot of wealthy benefactors, something local museums likely do not.

(23,020 posts)Not recently, but back in the 70s when it was free.
Yes, I said free. All the big museums in New York were free back then. I went to the met and several others. I never could have afforded any of them if they hadn't been free, and I'll always be grateful I had that opportunity.
Now museums in New York and everywhere cost an arm and a leg. That makes me sad.
littlemissmartypants
(35,179 posts)I remember those days. I loved going to NYC. I was fortunate to be able to visit several times and walked many blocks to wander so many museums.
The weirdest was the Museum of Holography on 88th and something... I can't remember that. I don't think it exists anymore but there was a huge hologram of a beating human heart that was beyond mesmerizing inside.

(35,179 posts)a newer red-carpet event, The Debt Gala, will be (was) held in Brooklyn. The event was founded to raise funds for organizations that help relieve medical debt for people in marginalized communities. It also has a theme: Let Them Eat Cake: Ruined Riches. Tickets cost $35.

And..
High profile individuals are often invited to attend the Met Gala free of charge.

(13,003 posts)And before her, Hillary Clinton whose experience was far and above any candidate in the past decades.
But, it was imperative that the Republicans and Putin go all out in making sure Kamala didn't get elected for many reasons.
She had the corrupted voting going against her, the fact that they couldn't allow the first woman president to be a Democrat, and most of all, a black woman to be president.......
I am deeply saddened that she wasn't elected. The U.S. (and the World) would have been infinitely better off if she had......

(29,399 posts)Skipping the red carpet was a good call (safety wise, too) -- maybe they won't notice. The Revolution types that attack Democrats all the time can't really get worked up about the Oligarch Billionaires Money Gala or whatever since AOC has attended before. Just look at the fashion!
