After Wednesday will we need real id for federal buildings like the social security office?

(55,227 posts)if they'll let you on planes with a passport, I guess that would also apply to federal buildings.

(11,920 posts)Even for planes, a person could fly domestically without real id for 2 years but boarding would take longer
While Im sure a passport would work Im asking about just a regular drivers license for the social security building ( since now we have to show up in person for so many things)
We were not worried about getting a real id because we will never fly but thinking of federal buildings, if one is needed for the ss building it could be a mess for people

(11,920 posts)I looked it up and the social security office will still take a regular state id but if I want to visit the nuclear power plant I need real id

Then I am told, I may have to change apartments being that my husband will be in another, more expensive area due to declining health. This will occur later this week.
Being that I applied and paid for a Real ID non-drivers and may have to move to a smaller apartment, what will happen? I would also have to re-register to vote as well.

(11,418 posts)I have not had such issues with a license since I was a teen in the freaking late seventies.
When I lived in Tennessee, I went into the DMV and, barring any issues, I walked out with my document.
Although I mention North Carolina in the seventies as being as bad as here, they fixed this later on. I was also able to walk out with my documents after a visit. (Again, barring any issues.)
Here? HAH! 'Six to eight weeks'?!?
Nice to know that some places really love bureaucracy.

(25,096 posts)Have the proper documents (Social Security card, etc.) and it only took me 15 minutes.
A passport works as its the best government ID there is. Global Entry also works.
Having all ones proper IDs is prudent these days.
