(55,782 posts)The visit flies in the face of the firm stand the Canadian PM took last week. Like he knows there will be fallout and seeks to better Canada's position. Or it could be viewed as fulfilling head of state role.
Hope if they have a presser it's a presser and not a cabinet entourage bombarding a US ally.
Is this Trump's bankers' week? PM Carney today, Fed & Powell tomorrow. Bond markets have yet to weigh in on Trump policies.

(131,199 posts)It's not like Carney could just show up at the White House; somebody had to have arranged for the meeting. Maybe Carney was the instigator, to tell Trump to his face that the US is not going to annex Canada. Maybe Trump invited him to get him to give him Canada. But If Trump didn't want to see Carney or doesn't know why they are meeting, then why are they meeting? I just hope Trump doesn't try to do what he did to Zelenskyy.

(34,995 posts)Being an asshole might run in families, but so does Alzheimer's disease, which Trump's father had. And, which Ol' Mush Brain has been showing numerous signs of having, as well. Of course, being an asshole and having a disease that causes mental deterioration are not mutually exclusive.

(31,993 posts)I have spent the last couple decades working almost exclusively serving geriatric and disabled populations. Ive administered MMSEs, facilitated medical and lifestyle adaptations to help individuals and families cope, and then help the transition when they need a higher level of care. Been there more times than I ever want to remember for that last dose of morphine.
I DESPERATELY WANT HIM TO HAVE ANY DISEASE THAT WILL TAKE HIM OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Im not picky! Ill take ANYTHING and happily add any variety of dementia to the pot.
I just DO NOT SEE IT. I see wishful thinking. I see the normal aging of a man who had nothing to write home about cognitively speaking from the very beginning. I see the normal aging of a man who never cared for learning, who never took exercise, who could pay someone to fix everything, who consumed food most uncarefully and most of all, the normal cognitive aging of the laziest tyrant since . . ever.
Im holding out hope for a live, massive, on-air stroke that leaves him cognitively intact but drooling, unable to stand and unable to speak in a way that could ever be understood. That is my fondest wish.

(9,515 posts)No one at their level has meetings where what is to be discussed is known well in advance. By staffers on both sides. Many times they know what the agreed upon results will be - for the press conference after.
