appearing to suck up to the Orange Asshat. WTF? Diplomacy or copying what Putin does to him? Flattery followed by a stiff backhand across the face?

(644 posts)words to that effect was a bit much. I'm all for civility. But, I hope Carney prepared by watching the Zelynski meeting. I wasn't suggesting a literal punch in the face but a verbal one. I'm sorry if it came across like that.

(24,203 posts)At all levels. There is a book on Trump, you flatter him and he'll give you whatever you want. So world leaders don't owe it to American voters to stqand up to Trump, they owe it to their own country to get the best deal possible and that often starts with buttering the easily influenced Trump up.

(12,531 posts)The man (I hope) mixes this initial flattery (soften the man-baby up) with hard-nosed negotiation reality--the tariffs are a bad idea and will hurt everyone including the United States. Carney has already stated his 'red line' innumerable times.
Will Trump take the cue?
Probably not because Agent Orange loathes the idea of backing off. I'm counting on Carney to finesse the situation as best he can. But the bottom line?
You strike Canada, Canada strikes back.
Then we all lose.
