But as Ali Velshi and Chris Hayes are pointing out now, WE ARE THE BUYERS. WE CONSUME the worlds' goods. And that is actually a good position to be in.
Making the imports so expensive or not available at all will only hurt us. And we are not a "luxury store" that can provide the entire country's needs as well as everyone else's.
I thought his previous non understanding of tariffs was bad. It's gotten worse. It really looks like he just doesn't know or care that Americans need things we import and will suffer if we don't have them.

(60,320 posts)... precursors, chemicals used to make pharmaceuticals. They were front loaded to beat the tariffs. Little of the surge was consumer goods. And now the regular flow of consumer goods is drying up, down about 30-50%. This is showing up (not coming in) at the ports this week. It will be about a week or less for warehouse / distributor inventory flows to dwindle, and there might be about 4-6 weeks of inventory on hand. So absences of consumer goods may start this week and get deeper in the coming weeks.

(10,297 posts)Donald Johns latest statement marks the end of Republican Party competence at running businesses or managing the economy.
Think of it. Most of us have some knowledge of how poorly Donald John ran his businesses. Dubya needed help, to say the least. The last Republican president who could successfully run a business was George H.W. Bush, and he hasnt been President since January 20th, 1993 (He has since passed away). Theres a gap of over 30 years between George-the-fathers and Donald Johns inauguration.
That is not only long enough for a pattern to form but also to lock in.
