Has there been any announcement of why Pope Leo XIV wore Cardinal choir dress

Last edited Thu May 8, 2025, 08:06 PM - Edit history (1)

instead of the traditional white Papal vestments when he was presented on the balcony? He was wearing a white zucchetto, but I think everything else was what a cardinal would wear on such an occasion.

Edit: I was wrong. He was wearing the traditional first appearance dress. Both John Paul’s, and Benedict were similarly attired.

3. The only thing he was wearing that a cardinal also might wear was the shoulder cape. As pope, he's still a cardinal.

The only thing missing was the biretta and the red zuchetto worn under it, which was replaced with the papal white.
