My opinion: The Republic of the Philippines is willing to take back any of its citizens who are in the United States without proper documentation. There is no need to send them to a war-torn African country.
From linked article:
MANILA Senate President Francis Escudero on Thursday condemned a reported plan by US immigration authorities to deport undocumented Asian nationals, including Filipinos, to Libya, calling the move cruel and a violation of basic human rights.
Filipinos are not camels to be dumped on some Libyan desert. They are human beings who deserve to be accorded all the rights by a state who claim to cherish and uphold them, Escudero said in a news release

(26,915 posts)This whole rush to ship people out to just anywhere quickly so the courts cannot keep up, families not notified ad then not keep track of where they were sent is outrageous. Congress! Get to work

(81,262 posts)Much better than sending them to death camps.
But not the performative media stunt Trump is aiming for.
And doesn't give him the satisfaction of torturing and killing people.

Trumps administration is filled with wannabe Hitlers Stalins.

(3,132 posts)...their citizens back. The Philippines is a free and safe place to live (I retired here).
If Filipinos are willing to return to their country, why the fuck would they be on a bus headed to an airport to be transferred to Libya? That's why everyone deserves due process.
Filipinos, for the most part, do not cross the Southern Border. The undocumented Filipinos fly here and overstay their visas and continue to work "off the books".
They, by in large, pose no danger, but if they can't gain legal residence in the US they are willing to return home.

(22,951 posts)They want to send them somewhere where U.S. laws are t followed. Cruelty is the point. Skirting laws and civil rights is the point.
As I said, its the same reason we shipped people to Cuba after 9-11.

(13,961 posts)Terrorism. Performative cruelty as an object lesson to anyone who might consider immigrating to the US.
And pretty sure I've seen Trump basically say this out loud. The message is "Try to migrate to the U.S. illegally and we just might make an oopsie in where you end up if we catch you."
It has to be admitted that it's an extremely effective message. We Dems simply have not learned yet that people aren't all sweety pies and good intentions. It dramatically and ironically undermines our credibility and our ability to do good for people.
