(21,099 posts)He was a toddler when his parents brought him over here from England, and had no memories of ever living anywhere other than here. I don't know why he suddenly decided to get naturalized at the age of 60 or why he waited so long, but I was proud of him at the time for going through all that red tape and becoming a citizen.
In spite of being born in England, he was as American as anyone I've ever known. And if anyone wants to claim I'm not an American citizen because of him, all I can say is come at me, bro!

All five of President-elect Donald Trumps children fulfill two criteria for automatic U.S. citizenship - they were born to at least one U.S.-citizen parent and they were born in the United States - so they would not lose citizenship, as social media posts suggest, if Trump does away with so-called birthright citizenship, as he has promised to do.
Alongside pictures of four of Trumps five children - Barron, Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric - posts on social media say, opens new tab: Trumps plan to end birthright citizenship would mean 4 of his children wouldn't be considered U.S. citizens: Don Jr - born in 1977. Ivanka - born in 1981. Eric - born in 1984. Ivana - became a U.S. citizen in 1988. Barron - born in March 2006. Melania - became a U.S. citizen in July 2006.
Trump, who ran his presidential campaign on border reform and mass deportations, is expected to roll out his immigration agenda and deport record numbers of illegal immigrants when he takes office on Jan. 20.
The social media posts followed an interview on Dec. 8 with NBC News' Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, in which Trump said he would take executive action to end birthright citizenship, which grants citizenship to anyone born in the U.S. regardless of the status of their parents.

(566 posts)I had to do a school project in the 70's about my family's "Roots". I bet you can guess where that came from. As a result of my interviews with my paternal grandmother and aunts and uncles on my mother's side, I discovered that my great-grandparents all emigrated to this country in the late 19th century, seven of them from Poland and one from Germany. All four of my grandparents were born in Chicago and both of my parents were born in Chicago. I'm third generation American, born on a long-closed airbase in Indiana.
Except let's look at it applying the "logic" of the President's decree. If my great-grandparents weren't citizens, then my grandparents couldn't be either. And if my grandparents weren't citizens, then neither were my parents, and therefore I'm not a citizen either.
In fact, damn near everyone in the country could be disqualified as citizens according to this absurd decree. Including the President himself. Sounds pretty stupid to me. Or rather, convenient.

(37,250 posts)First:
Barron wasn't born after the executive order was issued.
Second:
The executive order does not require both parents to be citizens, and last I checked, Trump was a citizen.

(56,860 posts)If you want a bunch of DU members wandering around believing or even promoting this lie, let it stand.
Read posts 17 and 19 to see why it is necessary to self-delete the falsehood OP. If you believe they are wrong, respond there with as much reason and care as posters 17 and 19 took.

(56,860 posts)1) Self-delete your OP because it is false. See replies 17 and 19.
2) The OP is a lie because the Executive Order is not back-dated and protects children of citizen fathers.
3) Do not post an OP and walk away because that is against the spirit and purpose of DU: discussion. This is the third post in a row you have done that.
You can do better. If you do not know how to self-delete, ask.
