It will be interesting if the acceptance of a luxury jet is the point of no return for Republican leadership and they "convince" trump to back off, either through public pressure or an investigation. But it is starting to look like that might happen.
Ari Melber just led off his show with a list of several R Senators, including Ted Cruz, expressing disapproval. The chyron is Trump Faces GOP Revolt Over Planned $400M Gift From Qatar. And apparently, Murdoch's NY Post is even against it, writing that Trump Shouldn't Accept Luxury Jet.
Last night, Lawrence O'Donnell predicted that trump would back down.
And I am starting to agree. The R leadership may be stupid, but even they know that heading into the midterms with a symbol of corruption this easy to comprehend would be a gift to the Democrats!

(we all know that Trump has all the instincts and ethical depth of a sewer rat .. but ... )

(25,530 posts)It'll be up to the R's in congress, and I think they're signaling that they might have a pulse.

(25,530 posts)disapproval. I'm starting to get Matt Gaetz vibes, like this is just a bridge too far. As usual, though, it's about their own political survival. And there might be a couple who honestly care about security. We'll see.

(93,908 posts)and we are supposed to think some comments of disapproval from Republicans means anything ?
Have they said anything about holding investigations and supporting legislation including things like impeachment ?
Just saying " I don't think he should take it" doesn't mean anything.
And unlike Democrats the Republicans actually hold power to do many things as they are the majority.
And if they are worried about midterms they will at most just wait for it to be over before publicly accepting it.

(25,530 posts)You're on record as a "no".
By the way, I didn't put down the Dems in any way for what they are doing. It's up to R's, and to me, they are starting to show signs of a spine.
