Bruce was very prescient in the case of Trump....
I don't think Trump is doing himself any good with this particular battle---
probably lots of working-class voters who love Springsteen,
but made the mistake of voting for Trump this last time....
Bruce has been a musical hero of mine since about 1980, with his pro-working class lyrics---
and I applauded his entrance into more overt politics when he attacked the Bush administration
over the war in Iraq, and endorsed John Kerry for President in 2004.
"Last to Die" was a Springsteen song written in the wake of the Iraq war,
based on a quote from John Kerry about the Vietnam war
'who wants to be the last to die for a mistake?'
I invite everyone to post their favorite Springsteen song, or songs--- choosing just one might be impossible.

(56,198 posts)I know a lot of this musically is tom morello's doing, but the song itself is great, the boss has a completely different version he did with woody Guthrie.

(5,011 posts)where the DJ could mask the vocals from a CD...
Also, they could lower the audio frequency by some number of half-steps, or raise it I suppose---
I had to have them lower the frequency by about 2 half steps, so that I could nail the high notes at the end... LOL
Back when I had a 30 year old singing voice, now I suppose it could kill me to try it!
I was slightly involved in the 'muscle car culture' described in the 'Born To Run' album,
owning a 1973 Chevy Nova with a 350 engine and 3-speed stick...
My favorite line here was 'roll down the window, and let the wind blow through your hair...'

(5,011 posts)I see 'Spirits in the night' as the direct pre-cursor to "Jungleland"!
"Crazy Janey and Her Mission Man were
back in the allley tradin hands
'Long came wild billy with his friend
g-man all duded up for saturday night
Well billy slammed on his coaster
brakes and said anybody wanna go up to Greasy Lake
Its about a mile down the dark side of Route 88
I got a bottle of rose so lets try it
Well pick up hazy davy and killer joe
And ill take you all out to where the
gypsy angels go
THEY BUILT LIKE LIGHT
AND THEY DANCE LIKE SPIRITS IN THE NIGHT
all night in the night all night
oh you dont know what the can do to you
SPIRITS IN THE NIGHT
all night in the night all night
stand up right now and let them shoot through you
Well now wild billy was a crazy cat
and shook some dust out of his coon skin cap
He said trust some of this itll show
you where your at or at least itll
help you really feel it
Buy by the time we made it up to greasy lake
i had my head out the window
and janey's fingers were in the cake
i think i really dug her because i was to loose to fake
I said Im Hurt
She said honey let me heal it
and we danced all night to a soul fairy band
and she kissed me just right like only a
lonely angel can
She felt so nice just as soft as a SPIRIT IN THE NIGHT
all night in the night all night
janey you dont know what she would do to you
LIKE A SPIRIT IN THE NIGHT
all night in the night all night
stand right up and let it shoot through me
Now the night was bright and the stars
threw light on billy and davy dancin
in the moonlight
They were down near the water
having a stone mud fight
Killer joe gone passed out on the lawn
Well now hazy davy got really hurt he
ran into the lake in just his socks and his shirt
Me and Crazy Janey was makin love in the dirt
singin our birthday song
Janey said it was time to go so
we closed our eyes and said goodbye
to gypsy angel row
felt so right
together we move like SPIRITS IN THE NIGHT
all night in the night all night
Oh you don't know what they can do to you
them spirits in the night
all night all night all night
oh stand right up and let it shot through you
like a spirit in the night
all night all night all night all night all night all night all night
all night all night all night all night all night"

(5,011 posts)from 'The River', title track of the same album in 1980---
seems like his greatest song of 'economic angst'...
"I come from down in the valley
Where, mister, when you're young
They bring you up to do like your daddy done
Me and Mary we met in high school
When she was just seventeen
We drive out of this valley
Down to where the fields were green
We'd go down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh, down to the river we'd ride
Then I got Mary pregnant
And man, that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday
I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
And the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles, no walk down the aisle
No flowers, no wedding dress
That night we went down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh, down to the river we did ride
Yeah, yeah
I got a job working construction
For the Johnstown Company
But lately there ain't been much work
On account of the economy
Now all them things that seemed so important
Well mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember
Mary acts like she don't care
But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet, down at the reservoir
At night on them banks I'd lie awake
And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
Now those memories come back to haunt me
They haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse
That sends me down to the river
Though I know the river is dry
That sends me down to the river tonight
Down to the river
My baby and I
Oh, down to the river we ride-ide
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh"

I could go on and on and on and on. I've loved the Boss.since I was a kid and seeing him live during his Born In The USA tour was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had.
Fuck Trump. A big 8647 to the whiny snowflake.
