It all points in that direction:
- His loyal appointees are coming across as incompetents who are unqualified for their jobs;
- his stab at medicare is a signal of disaster for the financial markets who know that people who have to start saving for future medical costs don't have extra money to invest in the markets;
- the Supreme Court is ready to reel him in;
-protests numbers are growing in the streets;
-early elections show a shift in favor of Democratic candidates...
And all of his global adversaries, many who were once our allies, are watching this fall apart for him, knowing that in the end it gives them leverage to kick him in the teeth.
Frankly, I think the fat lady is singing.

(52,346 posts)My only question now is how much damage are they going to be allowed to make before his own party agrees it's time to give him early retirement. I imagine there will be deals to be made, and maybe one of them is to give him a fancy plane to escape to an autocratic country that will give him amnesty...until they wise up and deport him.

(52,346 posts)I think it all comes down to Wall Street applying pressure on everyone's wallets. I don't count on the media to help connect the dots. But this will be the tipping point: The more Trump impoverishes the American people, the less they have to invest in the markets. That's the key. Oh, and the fact that foreign investors are doing their devilish best to screw up the bond market.

(52,346 posts)bad governance. But the higher up the ladder that Trump's Administration dries up the surplus money, the more it shrinks the consumer base for Wall Street. Yeah, that's going to be a problem for them.

(60,320 posts)But it certainly feels to me like it is building to an imminent one.
All the trends are moving that way or poised to move that way: consumer sentiment, leading indicators, tariff taxes, govt spending cuts, govt layoffs, low-end labour disruption by ICE, tourism down, ocean shipping down, deficits up, bond yields up (higher interest rates). Some of those have been pushed out in time: some govt layoffs don't hit until September, House bill wants to delay healthcare slashing until after the midterms.
The only one that seems to be counter those trends is the stock market. But it hasn't tested the Jan-Feb high and it is once again expensive with regard to current and projected earnings. So it may be poised to tip too. It has an awful lot riding on the idea that things are pretty much normal with regard to internal indicators and that earnings have not (yet at least) been much disappointing or have been a bit positive. But all those earnings reports are only up to end of March. April was a cruel month.
By time tRump realizes (or is told in no uncertain terms) that he has dealt himself a bad hand of cards, the tipping point will have been crossed. At first he won't believe it and will stall. By time he acts it will be too little too late because to do more will be to admit he was wrong.

(72,187 posts)His appointees being revealed as incompetents isnt exactly a news flash. And remember, it is their incompetence, along with his, that his followers love so much. We know how much they despise competence, intelligence, judgement, and discernment. Look how much they hated the Clintons, the Obamas, and the Bidens.
His followers dont care if Medicare and Medicaid get gutted, because they still think it wont affect them. And when it does, they will blame Joe Biden, and continue to insist that Trump is doing good things for the country.
And if the Supreme Court was going to reel him in, they would have done it by now. The sixers will never admit they were wrong to grant him immunity from his crimes.

(72,187 posts)when the Republican governor of Tennessee gutted the state Medicaid budget, just as he had promised to do in his campaign. She was dependent on Medicaid, and voted for him anyway.
At the end of her pity-pitch, someone asked her why she had voted for him, knowing he was going to gut her benefits. She just kind of hung her head and said: I guess I just always vote Republican.
These are the people were up against. No intelligence, no judgment, no logic. Just dogs, scratching away at a flea until their pelts bleed.

(4,094 posts)"His loyal appointees are coming across as incompetents who are unqualified for their jobs"
They are not incompetent, they are simply evil, they are there to take orders, destroy, hurt people, grift, and more, they are very good at it, they work fast. Just take a look at dictatorships that started that way in other countries, it is a blueprint.
Destroy and make it look like you don't know what you are doing, you know you know what you are doing because your job is to destroy and piss people.
Continually go on TV and spew barbaric things, it will keep people talking for a while, and when the anger subsides, go back on TV and spew more outrageous commentaries.
Continue to create hate.
Dismantle everything and anything that can stop you from carrying your agenda to stay in power for life.
Grift, make all those who help you very rich. Buying loyalty is easy, all you need to do is given them money.
And here is the one I worry about more than anything....Give money to the military, make the brass very rich as well, buy those with power who can command the power of the military against the citizens who do not behave.
There is more, but those are key for setting up a dictatorship, and lets hope the military is not for sale, that all those patriotic teachings they receive are in full force to combat the enemies from within.

(4,094 posts)I believe most of the judges in the supreme court, including Roberts, are compromised, none of them want to go to jail.
The fact that they gave him immunity for "actions taken while in office" is more than enough to know that they made themselves slaves of the guy, that is a decision that has made them fragile.
Sorry, but I don't share your optimism on that point, but I do certainly hope you are right.

(32 posts)we are all missing one important item...consumer spending!
yes, the stock market is watching and being watched. but most of the people with 401K's have blindly put their money into the 401's. and don't really know where or how their money is invested. as prices start to rise because of HIS Beautiful Tariffs, the everyday consumer will start to pull back on their spending. which is turn could lead to the Stock Market faltering.
if the BIG BOYS panic and start to sell their stock, everyone's 401's could be in line for a World of Hurt. which will probably cause the average consumer to pull back even more on their spending.
and it's not forget what is happening in the Health Care world either! I just got notification that my Health Care clinic is closing down at the end of June, due to the Orange Monkey's budget cuts! Not sure what the status of my doctor is or will be. but I'm no longer going to be a 5 minute drive away from my doctor.
But as these little things keep adding up, the consumer will have to start pulling back.
it will be a classic case of Trickle Up Economy!
And the base of this House of Cards will collapse.

(758 posts)There is a litany of incompetence, corruption and general stupidity that virtually everyone left of MAGA expected, including some of those that voted for him. Each one of these events builds the argument that he is a terrible President and is destroying our country.
If you are looking for the tipping point at which he starts to really struggle politically, we are not there yet. Unfortunately, I think the financial markets will be the one to force that particular inflection, at which point it may be too late to fully recover.

(6,830 posts)From the Brexit vote to Trump winning the GOP primaries, I've learned not to place too much faith in my own forecasts. The future is unknown he might undergo more hormone therapy, he might suffer a stroke, he might overreach and finally face consequences, or he might even win the lotto.
However, there is a steady, consistent (and obvious) buildup of grassroots pushback. If there's no outlet for that pressure to release, his future could take on a distinctly Faustian turn. History offers a harsh lesson to those who ignore the will of the public for too long or too arrogantlysooner or later, that pressure finds its release. And when it does, it tends to crush whatever stood in its way.

(14,868 posts)So far his last significant loss was to Joe Biden. And even that proved to have no real consequences for Trump.
As far as I can tell he and his allies are positioning themselves to remove all barriers to their power over this country. And so far, I have not seen anything prove to be more than a minor speedbump in their path. Tell me the military is resisting him, and we might have something. Tell me that 2 dozen senate republicans are ready to impeach him, and we would be cooking with gas. Show me a significant rebellion in the supreme court, and there could be some hope.
But he doesnt care if his people are incompetent, as long as they are loyal. He doesnt care about crashing the market unless it has direct reprecussions for himself, personally. Protests in the street mean little, if he doesnt see them, or if he can get law enforcement or the military to crack down on them. Future elections are in doubt.
And the more powerful of the global adversaries of this country are watching with glee, happy to let, and even encourage Trump destroy the power of this country. Those who were our allies are moving on, with the certain knowledge that the USA can not be relied on as it had been in the past. Trump or no, our power and prestige in the world will never again in any of our lifetimes equal what it was on November 4th 2024. Unfortunately, even if he were impeached and immediately replaced with Kamala, Obama, Bernie, Hillary, or any of the many noteworthy options, the damage done is not fixable.
