Low cost airlines will 'launch standing only seats in 2026 after passing safety evaluations'

It’s a money-saving move that’s sure to divide holidaymakers – but several budget airlines will reportedly introduce standing-only seating options next year.

According to reports, including @entrepreneurshipquote on Instagram, the bike-style padded seats – which allow passengers to lean at an angle without completely sitting down – have now met regulation requirements and passed safety assessments.

These seats will increase passenger capacity by 20 per cent – and will apparently come into service in 2026 on flights up to two hours long.

The upright seating is called Skyrider 2.0 and was unveiled by manufacturer Aviointeriors at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2018 in Hamburg.

Of course one of the proponents is Ryanair. Those images from the 50's of luxury travel in jets are long gone. Now, we're just cattle.

Who cares about certified maximum takeoff weights, either? Just cram passengers in there like a Tokyo subway and hope the thing gets off the ground.

...times, the airlines and regulators already had to increase the average passenger weight used to make takeoff calculations. That happened, of course, due to the trend of increasingly zaftig Americans over the years.

There is no place on this earth I need to get to so urgently that I would pay money to fly there standing up.

“Why would we want this? We make all our money flying cargo! If we stuff more passengers on the plane we’ll go broke! We’d rather take out the seats in the back of the plane and put freight where they were.”
