Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIs it surprising that no Republican is calling for Trump's impeachment?
He could be a serial killer and they would say nothing.
He is a criminal, a convicted felon, and not a day goes by that he does not break the laws of this country. Yet, all we get are crickets. Crickets everywhere.
Why can't they get rid of this sorry excuse for a president? Is there anything he could do that would move them to impeach and convict this criminal?
I hope he destroys the political careers of each and every one on them.

(55,432 posts)We make so much of the French Revolution. "Let them eat cake," was the catalyst.
No it wasn't. Prior to 1792 France experienced 100 years of oppression that is not written or talked about much.
So this destruction of America could go on for a long while. Really, until there's nothing remaining.

(18,889 posts)In 1974 "Goldwater warned Nixon that his impeachment by the House of Representatives was imminent and that fewer than 10 Republican senators would vote against conviction." Those days are gone. It's a completely different Republican party today.
The cult is in charge now. Any Republican who wasn't a cult member has been run out of office or resigned. The GOP that is left is not interested in running this country as a democracy.

(3,526 posts)True.
Trump is the product of a Republican party that long ago abandoned advocating for sound governance and responsible public policy.
Trump didnt come along and change the GOP its been like this for decades.

(13,292 posts)He did everything he could to make it a lot worse than it could have been. I think causing more than 180,000 deaths qualifies one to be a serial killer.
Now he's put an anti-vax zealot in charge of the nation's health and jammed through a bill which will deny millions of people medical care and food assistance. Pro-life my ass!

(3,636 posts)when it comes to Trump. The ones that have stood up have been ostracized and reduced to a zero in the party.
I'm not even sure if there will be midterms to change the balance. Not fair ones if they do happen.
The question is how do we get Trump out or at least drain his current power without Republican help?

(115,461 posts)....but neither can the Republicans. They sit y and twiddle their thumbs as chaos and gridlock rule the day. They can go along with Trump's destruction of our government and his other illegal activities, but those are no accomplishments. They can get nothing done on their own. They can only do the bidding of Donald Trump.

(333 posts)I call and e-mail my senators and congressman every day. At least once or twice a week, I encourage my congressman to show some spine and begin impeachment. I told him support would be plentiful, and his action might actually save the nation. Sadly--he's a republican (as are the senators) . . . so there is little hope. Still I trudge on . . . every single day.

(18,738 posts)Why would they want him impeached? It's kinda' silly.
He ran on this stuff... and won.
We're in the delicate situation where we hope that they FAFO... but we don't want to see the nation destroyed.

Nixon, Reagan and George W all had many of the qualities Republicans have historically loved.
Trump has ALL of those qualities.

(333 posts)There are 273 Republican members of Congress. Can you explain to me how there is not a single one with the spine to challenge the mentally-challenged sitting president by instigating impeachment proceedings? Each day I read about an act, an action, or a statement that would have formerly cast doubt on the presidents ability to serve. From corruption, to fraud, to vengeful political weaponization of government agencies, I can only wonder at the silence. Left to draw my own conclusions, I would have to surmise that each and every one of the 273 silent republicans are either complicit in Trumps illegal behaviors, enabling him to show his true disdain for the vast majority of American people; or you expect to reap benefits (continued job security, inside information for financial actions, political ascendance) from his continued empowerment. Neither show you to be fit for the job of service to the citizens of America nor the majority (not plurality) of the voters.

(2,127 posts)I'm surprised at no mention of the Tea Party. Every single sane/centrist Republican was primaried and replaced with a more extreme right-winger. There used to be "loyal opposition" members in the GOP. But post Tea Party all we have are power-hungry villains who are deathly afraid of making the orange cheato angry.

(928 posts)He literally ran on all of this and that is what his cronies voted for. This is it... no impeachment and he will never be held accountable. I know it is not a positive message but I would bet my house on it.
