an undocumented immigrant, can the latter still be deported?

(11,911 posts)No, if the immigrant has married a citizen and gone through the process of getting a green card. However, the immigrant would be unlikely to get a green card if he entered illegally. The key is legal entry.

(7,400 posts)It doesn't matter documented or not. Legal or not. Valid visa, naturalized citizen or born citizen on US soil to 2 US citizen parents. If they want you gone... you will be shipped off to God only knows where and good luck with anyone knowing where you went.
We aren't at the fully monte quite yet, but they are working toward it. This is why most of the world has a travel advisory against coming to the US of A. It is entirely possible to come with all the right docs but get arrested at the airport because the border agent doesn't like your hair, and shipped off to a torture prison in some other country rather than being deported back home.
Edit to add, yes, I know this post is hysterics... I'm old enough to have heard stories first hand from people who lived through this under Hitler, their idol.

(24,203 posts)I 100% expect them to start rounding up anyone who disagrees with the administration for "deportation". Every single poster on DU could be sent to another country if our real identities became known to the gesta...I mean ICE.

Honestly, in advance of the election, I expected it to be a hot mess for 4 years, but the speed at which they are turning things ugly is far faster than I dreamt. I can't square my ideas of how this country runs anymore. If this goes on past 2028, I struggle to see how we pull it back from the worst scenarios I have conjured up in my wild imagination.

(24,203 posts)It's not worth it for the administration to go after 100 million people. But they absolutely will start making examples of some people who voice their opinions to try to stop any dissent.
I have a disabled friend who is on SS disability insurance and Medicaid. He posts all the time on FB anti Trump stuff. After we talked, he went back through and deleted every anti Trump post of his. This was when Elmo was obviously using AI to target people, we figured they will use AI to deny people benefits based on anti Trump posts in the future. I think that is coming quickly.
The administration just came out and said that student visa applications can be reviewed with the social media content of the applicant, basically, they're flat out saying if you've posting content that disagrees with this regime, they will keep you out of the country. The leap from that to we will throw American citizens out of the country who disagree with us is tiny.
We are so far down the rabbity hole, I fear people don't even believe what is already happening every day. We already have gulags around the world that hundreds of thousands of totally innocent people are being sent to to spend the rest of their lives in forced labor.

Ripping families apart, kids not being able to see their parents, family values indeed.

(15,462 posts)where we are completely in the thickets now (on this and other cases) - is 'whether or not' and/or what manner of judicial review is required.
