The cost to repair Washington, D.C., streets after the upcoming military parade celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary could cost as much as $16 million, according to U.S. military officials.

That’s part of an estimated $45 million total cost for the June 14 military parade, which coincides with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. The cost estimates have fluctuated as planning continues.

In an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” earlier this month, the president defended the cost of the parade, calling it “peanuts compared to the value of doing it.”....

The Army is preparing for the potential harm to Washington streets with several measures it hopes will avert damage. These include using 1-inch-thick steel plates, some as long as 20 feet, at places along the parade route where the tanks must turn and where those turns could cause the most damage to the streets. The addition of the steel plates is expected to cost the Army about $3 million, officials said.

The tanks are also being outfitted with new track pads to create separation between the metal track and the ground, the officials said. Army officials said they believe these measures will keep the damage to a minimum and bring the cost of repairing any damage down significantly.

All those rats that have stained their careers with Trump have to realize that they are persona non grata anywhere. Trump has them in a corner and he is striking all around them with that broomstick. He thinks he has them under control, afraid to move. And for now, that may be true, but soon enough things will change. 7. Our lil city (est pop 50,000) is a young town. Roads are kept up. No big trucks on the main east west blvd

And major work going on to fix a lot of sewer lines that are collapsing. No tanks on the road here. Regular traffic + time = wear and tear that has to be fixed. Can't imagine the damage really heavy vehicles on our roads would do.

There are places in D.C. where the presidential 'beast' is not allowed because it is so heavy and would damage streets, the underlying infrastructure like bucolic_frolic mentioned, and bridges.

And D.C. has to deal with costly unnecessary damages because a draft dodging felon can't muster a guest list that will show up for his birthday and wants to cos play the North Koran or Russian dictators? WTAF?

The $16 million figure is based on the the time required to complete the repairs. Application of Westheimer's Rule allows us to double the labor costs at a minimum. The urgency to repair the roads will not only double the time required, but it will also bring those labor costs at the overtime rate.

To estimate the time it takes to do a task: estimate the time you think it should take, multiply by 2, and change the unit of measure to the next highest unit. Thus we allocate 2 days for a one-hour task.
