(8,821 posts)The head of government in Poland is not the president, its the prime minister Donald Tusk who fervently opposes Trump.
The polish president has way less power than our president does, it is a parliamentary system.

(19,933 posts)The outgoing president is of the same party as the new one, this is the status quo, not a huge shift.

(7,059 posts)The Polish election over the weekend doesnt, by itself, determine what next months headlines will be. Theres a nuanced and specific context still unfolding, and trying to predict outcomes now may make for dramatic storytelling, but its not solid analysis.

PiS supported Nawrocki who just won, though technically I think he ran as an "Independent". And I see from his Wikipedia entry:
...
He supports ending the Russo-Ukrainian War by a peace agreement, but argues that the issue of territorial cessions should be decided by the European community as well as Ukraine itself. He demands World War II reparations from Germany for material losses and war crimes committed in occupied Poland, and states that they are needed for Germany to prove that it has peaceful intentions towards Poland. He also strongly opposes the Russian Federation and has stated that "Russia is imperialist in its foundation whether it is white terror, red terror or modern terror."[74]
