Last edited Mon Jun 2, 2025, 03:47 PM - Edit history (1)

Putin's efforts to destroy the EU, with the assist of America's Right Wing is going forward.
I wonder if there will continue to be passage into Ukraine through Poland?

But Russia, or at least Putin, clearly owns us, or at least Trump.

The head of government in Poland is not the president, its the prime minister Donald Tusk who fervently opposes Trump.

The polish president has way less power than our president does, it is a parliamentary system.

14. Every Pole knows about the 1944 Warsaw uprising

The Warsaw Uprising, sometimes referred to as the August Uprising, or the Battle of Warsaw, was a major World War II operation by the Polish underground resistance to liberate Warsaw from German occupation. It occurred in the summer of 1944, and it was led by the Polish resistance Home Army. The uprising was timed to coincide with the retreat of the German forces from Poland ahead of the Soviet advance. While approaching the eastern suburbs of the city, the Red Army halted combat operations, enabling the Germans to regroup and defeat the Polish resistance and to destroy the city in retaliation. Stalin refused to aid the Polish Resistance and they were slaughtered. The Poles hate Russia as much as the Finns.

5. I remember during the first tRump dictatorship Poland was talking about naming a new base after tRump

I don't think they are in love with tRump this time around though tRump did support the president elect.

6. This is pure nonsense. Trusk and his centrist coalition still control parliament.

The outgoing president is of the same party as the new one, this is the status quo, not a huge shift.

The Polish election over the weekend doesn’t, by itself, determine what next month’s headlines will be. There’s a nuanced and specific context still unfolding, and trying to predict outcomes now may make for dramatic storytelling, but it’s not solid analysis.

Not only that, they're gleefully doing his dirty work for free. Fucking madness. In a just world, Putin and his goons would be bombed back to the stone ages.

For Poland and the rest of the world, particularly Europe (and Ukraine). Western democracies do not need more Orban clones and/or Putin puppets.

of its co-founder in a plane crash:

Various conspiracy theories have been circulated alleging that the plane had been deliberately brought down by the Russians in an act of political assassination, and that the 2011 investigations constituted a cover-up and that the Polish government of the time — primarily controlled by the Civic Platform party as opposed to Lech Kaczyński's Law and Justice party (PiS) — was complicit in or aware of the plot, or at least aided in the efforts to cover it up.[3] These conspiracy theories are regularly promoted by PiS, particularly by party leader Jarosław Kaczyński (twin brother of Lech Kaczyński) and deputy party leader Antoni Macierewicz.[4][5][6][7] Following PiS's return to government, a new investigation was opened into the disaster, chaired by Macierewicz; its 2022 conclusion alleged a Russian plot.[8][9] The new report did not produce any evidence that could conclusively challenge the 2011 reports,[3] was later indicated to have been the subject of tampered evidence,[10] and was revoked in December 2023 after a non-Law and Justice government came into power.[11][12]

PiS supported Nawrocki who just won, though technically I think he ran as an "Independent". And I see from his Wikipedia entry:

In February 2024, he was listed as one of the persons wanted by the Russian Federation on criminal charges in relation to actions pertaining to the removal of monuments commemorating the presence of the Red Army on Polish territory in the years 1944–1989.
...
He supports ending the Russo-Ukrainian War by a peace agreement, but argues that the issue of territorial cessions should be decided by the European community as well as Ukraine itself. He demands World War II reparations from Germany for material losses and war crimes committed in occupied Poland, and states that they are needed for Germany to prove that it has peaceful intentions towards Poland. He also strongly opposes the Russian Federation and has stated that "Russia is imperialist in its foundation whether it is white terror, red terror or modern terror."[74]
