Israeli Soldiers Open Fire Near Gaza Aid Site. Gaza Officials Say 27 Are Killed

Israeli soldiers opened fire Tuesday morning near crowds of Palestinians walking toward a new food distribution site in southern Gaza, the Israeli military said. The Red Cross and Gaza health ministry said at least 27 people had been killed.

It was the second such shooting by Israeli forces in three days near the same aid distribution site in the southern city of Rafah, where thousands of desperate and hungry Palestinians are coming early each day in hopes of securing a food handout. Israeli soldiers opened fire on Sunday near an approach to the same food distribution site, and Palestinian officials said they killed at least 23 people.

The shootings, which the military said occurred roughly about 500 yards from the food distribution site, were the latest chaos surrounding a contentious new Israeli-backed system for food distribution sites in Gaza, where American private contractors oversee the handout of cardboard boxes of aid.

The United Nations has criticized the new effort, saying the amount of aid being distributed falls far short of needs, with one official calling it “engineered scarcity.”

The IDF's responsibility for that massacre was vehemently denied by Israel's supporters on several threads here. There were even misleading videos posted on DU as "proof" nothing happened.

Yet here we are a few days later. The same MO, but this time the IDF openly admitted they fired "near" "suspects" who allegedly approached from the wrong direction. The last time all we got was this, dutifully ignored by that crowd:

Speaking on condition of anonymity to comply with military protocol, the military official said soldiers had acted to prevent several people from approaching the troops when the aid point was not operating, including with “warning shots.”

People are told to walk tens of kilometres to get to the food and when they approach from any "wrong direction" are killed or wounded. Because the IDF feels "threatened" . The IDF should grow some balls then. They are the Goliath vs starving, weak, unarmed civilians. But though the lack of balls and conscience may be true, that is not the issue.

The issue is that this militarized, mercenary system of non-humanitarian "aid" hides and provides cover for a very ugly agenda. It was designed to be ineffective, punitive, blatantly insufficient (feeding only 60% of the population!) and prone to "mistakes" by the ball-less and trigger-happy IDF. When people become terrified of going for food, there is no choice left but to either starve or "voluntarily" exit Gaza. It's so diabolical and inhumane, only those who are fine with genocide and ethnic cleansing would devise or support it.

As long as the US. has their backs, they can do whatever they want and get away wirh it. Netanyahu laughs at the law.

The military said the troops fired near “a few” people who had strayed from the designated route to the site and who did not respond to warning shots. The statement called them “suspects” and said they had “posed a threat” to soldiers, but a military spokeswoman declined to explain the nature of the perceived threat. It added that was “aware of reports regarding casualties, and the details of the incident are being looked into.”

I supported Israel after the attacks going after Hamas but that mission ended long ago and if people are still believing that lie I have some weapons of mass destruction in Iraq to sell you. This is Netenyahu’s get out of jail free card to do as he likes. I’m sure the leaders of Israel aren’t ordering their guys to shoot random civilians but with multiple incidents in a week it seems like they don’t mind that it’s happening
