Karoline Levitt ditches religious necklace after Jon Stewart's brutal joke: 'Some sort of weird Pinocchio cross'

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was seen without her cross necklace following the mockery of Daily Show host Jon Stewart.

Leavitt appeared for her briefing on Tuesday in a navy blazer, but she had chosen to forego her signature jewelry.

On Monday night, Stewart skewered Leavitt, saying, “By the way, I think that the more she lies, the bigger her cross gets. Is that possible? It’s like some sort of weird Pinocchio cross.”

The host also noted that Leavitt is likely to be “the only one” who will be able to leave the administration “unscathed … Because I don’t think that she has any principles in there left to die.”

Both she and Trump's previous press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, are known for wearing an unadorned Protestant-style cross (not a crucifix) despite their practice of Catholicism. Sometimes Leavitt's cross goes missing for days, which makes its absence even more obvious, since the one she usually wears appears to be several times larger than McEnany's. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why she doesn't wear it. My hope is that it's the result of a guilty conscience, but that's certainly wishful thinking on my part. Lately I've noticed that Leavitt has been wearing a much smaller cross similar to the one McEnany wears.

Is the "conspicuous cross" back? I noticed that it was missing the last few times I've seen Leavitt. It was a real LOL moment for me when she came out for her first press conference wearing that cross, because it was a little too big and obvious. It was like she was trying to outdo her predecessor (Kayleigh McEnemy...er...McEnany), who wore an understated and much smaller cross.

Lisandra Vazquez has been parodying her for a couple months now and she definitely got Leavitt's attention and under her skin. One of the bits she does in all her imitations is wearing giant crosses made out of ridiculous items (but all with a specific meaning) - mocking Leavitt always wearing that cross front and center. Well once Vazquez started her imitations, Leavitt stopped wearing the cross for a couple weeks at least. A definite sign she is not happy being mocked.
