Americans fought for freedom and against fascists in Europe. We stood with our allies. We pulled off impossible things like D-Day. We knew what was morally right. We cared for more than ourselves. We all made sacrifices for the common good.
As someone who lost uncles in WWII and grew up in the immediate aftermath of that war, I just can't phantom how we got to this country of ignorance, hate, corruption, and greed.

(12,730 posts)He was not prone to mal de mere, not so many of his fellows. June 7 or 8 he and those able loaded up their sea sick brothers in landing craft and laid their bodies out on the now secure beach.
He made it from Normandy to where the Allies meet the Soviets.
Here he is in Belgium I think.
