Richard Ramirez, aka The Night Stalker, terrorized Los Angeles with a string of brutal and grisly rapes and murders in the mid eighties. He eluded capture for two years. He was finally caught when he tried it in East L.A. The local folks spotted him, chased him down, beat his ass and held him until the cops showed up
The moral of the story: Don't f*&k with the citizens of Los Angeles. They're a lot tougher than people think they are, especially when they are being threatened.

(26,700 posts)My family was on a sailing trip when they caught him, that was the first thing we heard when we got to the dock. Even before the lines were tied off.

(4,395 posts)Richard Ramirez was the Night Stalker. The Hillside Strangler was Kenneth Bianchi along with his cousin Angelo Buono.
I can't believe I confused the two. I worked at one of the L.A. TV stations in those days. I dealt with those stories every day. The years have blurred my memory.
I had the incorrect time frame in my OP too.

(16,832 posts)Just a few nights before he was caught he was seen in my sisters neighborhood. A neighbor got home from work and saw him creeping around another house and he took off. I dont know anyone who wasnt on high alert before he was caught. Scary times.
And I believe that crowd in East LA would have killed him if they had a few more minutes before the cops arrived.
