Is it just me, or is 100% of The Daily Beast's content now behind a paywall?

If I click on any article, I'm seeing one paragraph, half greyed out, telling me I need to sign up or log in.

I HAVE a free account because they've done this before.

NOW, if I log in, it just stalls and never completes the process.

I have had issues with other websites like DeviantArt, Discord, and Midjourney. I have to use the Chrome Browser because I've kept that one free of ad blockers / tracker blockers / etc. I just have RoboForm, my password manager, and nothing else installed. I also have to turn off my VPN to access any of those 3 sites.

But I can't access Daily Beast under any circumstances and wondered if any of you were having the same issues.

I get a "THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE" message under the grayed-out paragraph, and I also get "A SUBSCRIPTION WOULD LOOK REALLY GOOD ON YOU" message telling me to pay if I want to read any further.

I got a malware warning when I visited that web site. n/t Jacson6 Jun 2025 #4
I'm curious where that warning is coming from, if you don't mind sharing. rog Jun 2025 #5

https://paywallbuster.com/

There are a few sites that have managed to block this service, but for the most part it really works. I just checked this page on The Daily Beast ...

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-scoffs-at-fox-news-reporter-saying-protests-are-spreading-i-dont-think-so/

... which is paywalled. Plugged into Paywallbuster and got this.

Embedded videos and audios don't play, but the text content is unlocked.

Edited to add that the NY Times is especially annoying. I'm on their 'update' feed, and they send me links to articles that are paywalled. Paywallbuster allows me to read the articles with a couple of clicks.

I've never had that happen. Maybe it's because paywallbuster.com redirects to several other sites and chooses the one that works.

If you don't mind doing an experiment, see if these two sites trigger a warning.

You could try using those sites directly if they don't trigger a warning, and just bypass paywallbuster.

Thanks ... I'm curious what you discover.
