Bernie Sanders, Angus King Propose Drug Advertising Ban in Consumer Marketing

“Sens Bernie Sanders and Angus King have introduced new legislation that would ban prescription drug advertising on television, radio, print, digital platforms and social media.
The bill, known as the End Prescription Drug Ads Now Act, would apply to all drugs and biologics, including those currently on the market.

“With the exception of New Zealand, the United States is the only country in the world where it is legal for pharmaceutical companies to advertise their drugs on television. It is time for us to end that international embarrassment,” Sanders said in a statement. “The American people don’t want to see misleading and deceptive prescription drug ads on television. They want us to take on the greed of the pharmaceutical industry and ban these bogus ads“

What would be left. Mando commercials every 5 minutes? Or, they all get replaced with Puppy Shootin Noem, threatening to liberate all our Dem states and cities?
No, I would rather watch flash dancing crowds singing about their meds. As bad as that is.

They seem to want to sell to younger audiences, they are not pleased with the older audiences anymore, "INCREASE THE REVENUE, I SAY!"

There is an average of two drug commercials during breaks on TV, we counted them the other day, and we noticed that very young people were being used, and of course they are all laughing, full of joy while at the bottom of the screen says "Call your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, this can even cause death.", but the actors are having a great time, the one taking the medicine is always the most popular of the group as well, a sublime message maybe?

Early evening hours, it's drugs and lawyers and more drugs and more lawyers. I'm not sure which is more annoying. Car dealers are right up there as well. I just record the programs and fast forward through the ads.

This is my first post at DU, though I've been a lurker for a long time. In the interest of full transparency, I don't agree with much of what is posted here. That said, when a proposal is made that makes as much sense of this, I'm four square behind Sanders and King.
Banning pharmaceutical ads is long past due. For God's sakes, the drug business spends more on marketing than they do on research. It's abominable.
I don't call myself a conservative or a liberal, but a pragmatist. I don't care which side of the aisle solutions come from, I just look for what will work for the betterment of our society. This is a pragmatic step in the right direction.

Before it was looked at not allowing advertisements because the government can regulate all interstate commerce. Now SCOTUS is making everything about the 1st amendment when it comes to business communications in commerce.

IMHO.

Some ads push overpriced drugs that are Medicare scams to benefit pharma companies and for profit providers.
