The suspect left his vehicle behind. Inside his vehicle were several handwritten notes simply saying "No Kings" No other details. As he targeted Democratic lawmakers, one would think he was vehemently anti protesters. Can't really speculate too much on why those notes were in his car. Seems a mild oddity though.
He also left behind a manifesto. Guys like that always have manifestos. In time we will find out what's in it.

Maybe that factoid is real, maybe it isn't, eventually there will be more clarity but it doesn't really signify anything either way.

Part of the escape plan?
RandomNumbers
(19,263 posts)Maybe he was going to be handing them out or something. So people would assume he is on the "No Kings" side.
A darker thought is after he finished his planned "mission" he would infiltrate a No Kings protest until he got in a position to kill lots of people.

(82,386 posts)Yes he could also want people to think he was a liberal, to blame Dems for the murders?
RandomNumbers
(19,263 posts)that his identity and true motive will come out either way.
Why - SOMEONE on his list - probably several someones - would have a video doorbell that would record his face. I'm thinking no official would be opening their door to a masked cop. I get the masking in ICE raids and other mass police actions (although obviously I disapprove), and powerless folks complying; but what person of any social power would think a masked police officer at their door is for real? Ergo, he couldn't have masked (not sure if this is already stated somewhere). No way he could expect that his identity wouldn't come out. Ergo, unless his brain cells are seriously compromised (beyond murderous madness), any red herrings he planted would eventually be debunked.

(82,386 posts)Most people would realize there was no escape plan for this crime.
He would be hunted down and found.
Life in prison, or death penalty.
Or suicide by cop.
But it is possible this man was mentally ill and delusional.
He had a security firm, maybe thought he was smarter than the average bear.
Could escape, or get a pardon from Trump.
Also, police officers and security people often get away with their crimes.
They are clever about the crimes they commit and meticulous about cleaning up the crime scene.
He might have gotten away with it, perhaps.
But he ran into some bad luck when local police went to do security checks on the other legislators.
He might have had a mask on. Perhaps a medical mask.
A member of congress might have opened the door for a masked police officer.
But as you say, the doorbell cameras will give us that information.

(1,405 posts)He just didn't get finished with whatever his plan was for the day. But it could be that he planned to merge with the crowd in order to put distance between the last act, when it was discovered, and himself. We will never know if the protest was part of his scheme. And, no, I cannot merge the vehicle in a plan to become invisible.

(11,040 posts)So - if someone checked their camera , he just looked like a policeman. He had the kind of full face rubber mask you buy for Halloween.
Community people were super angry at her for passing one the deciding votes to take undocumented immigrants off of the MinnesotaCare low income insurance program. She was crying in a video about the anger directed at her. Because of this, cops were doing a check up of her place to insure all was well. The killer probably realized she would open the door for someone who looked like police checked up on her.

(10,446 posts)That would make sense as the flyers would have the locations of the various protests and he may well have been planning to go to those sites yo shoot protestors.
ForgedCrank
(3,120 posts)we can't trust any information at this stage, but what I read earlier indicated that the "No Kings" material they found in the vehicle were flyers. If true, maybe he was stealing them from bulletin boards and public areas? Petulant types often rip down postings that they don't like such as political yard signs, etc. That's what I would assume at least.

(82,386 posts)1. The protestors were on his hit list and he was going to try to kill as many as possible.
2. The protests were part of his escape plan. He was going to put on civilian attire
and disappear into the crowd as a means of escape.
