(14,943 posts)All who attended thus did so being fully informed.....
Protestors were a prime target....

(4,883 posts)Zero. Every time we step out in the street we are at risk. Every time. We were harassed on the streets during *. If we stayed home every time we were threatened .we would never go out. They could have said theyadvise people to stay home but the manner they used would NEVER be taken with MAGA .ever!

(14,943 posts)there was an active shooter with a hit list to target democrats and No King rally supporters....The shooter already claimed that morning two lives and seriously injured 2 others who all were political targets/ democrats.
Rally goers in that area were targets too. It's about informed decisions.

(4,883 posts)Lets face it we are all having our lives ruined, young and old alike, by this regime and many of us will die at their hands. That is pretty likely. Sitting out was not an option. The notice was an order not a suggestion. Improper ..

(7,955 posts)We are suppose to keep out of sight for our safety's sake. Yea.. right. But also, perhaps they think only the magats are armed and can take care of themselves? Do they not realize that WE are armed, as well? And, while we don't pull out our pistols and wave them around every opportunity we get, those of us who roll with them, have them close at hand. I think they're allowing themselves to believe their own lies -- that all non-magats, democrats, are dirty fu*king hippies who are all peace love and get along together. We won't protect ourselves, let alone others, when it comes down to it.
These people may want to "wake" from their sleepy old school beliefs. Even the most peaceful can only stay silent for so long.

(131,252 posts)and I thought, "Fuck your 'abundance of caution.' I have to be there. I especially have to be there now." I understand why law enforcement felt obligated to give the warning - they'd have been criticized if they hadn't given it and the perp had showed up at one and started shooting - but caving into fear of something that was unlikely to happen (the perp had obviously gone into hiding) and was basically just law enforcement covering its butt "out of an abundance of caution" is letting the bad guy win. I wasn't going to do that.

(29,417 posts)(Covid tests were negative). Friday night I decided I was not going to make it to my local demonstrations but after what happened & the warning to stay home, no way could I not go.
Dug out a mask, put on my brand-new Penzey's "Resist" t-shirt and dragged myself to the demonstration. I didn't stay long, but at least I was there for a while.

(131,252 posts)We had to be there, didn't we? Hope you feel better soon; spring colds especially suck.

On edit: Yes, I'd think Walz also had--or maybe mostly had--concern about whether there might be a broader plot to hurt protesters, but... liability is out there, too.

(1,264 posts)He was doing his duty to keep the citizens safe. It wasnt an order, he knows he cant do that. He asked us to stay home. There was a murderer on the loose. He did what he had to do and Ocelot II and I did what we had to do and went anyway.

(55,394 posts)Preemptively declared a state of emergency and said there would be national guard in every place where there was a protest
it was a tactical intimidation against protesters
it did not work
we were in the streets
I had hoped to have them in my small town, so that the optics would work against them
but they were not there
The MAGAts are the fekking cowards
we will not be silenced

(20,388 posts)The disheartening part is the effect years of rightwing propaganda and dumbing down of of the education system have had on the constituency. The lies and misinformation that get repeated on local social media is gobsmacking. Well see how it goes in the midterms.

(866 posts)If some of us are hurt because of them, that is on them, and that needs to be addressed when we actually bust out the guillotine the next year or so. Trump will be first.

(11,566 posts)After the announcement that the state police wanted everyone to shelter, and after the ACLU sent out their email that their event was cancelled, the good persons in Minnesota said that they were worried more about their country than the threat of a coward.

(317 posts)of my state and my community. My friends and I went to the rally (we're somewhere in that picture) even after news of this horrible assassination broke. Yes, the Governor's office and the State Patrol were asking people to stay home, and tow of my friends were concerned enough that they did. I think the news actually galvanized some percentage of folks. Wonderful event - energy, passion, defiance. Best Sign(IMHO): "Come on Cholesterol, Do Your Job!"
