Museum Visitor Makes Bad Decision to Sit on Pricey Chair
The unfortunate moment at the Palazzo Maffei in Verona. (YouTube)
A museum in Italy would like a word with a couple whose attempt at a selfie ended up damaging a delicate chair on display. As the BBC explains, the incident unfolded at the Palazzo Maffei in Verona. CCTV footage captures the moment a man sits down on a museum piece called the 'Van Gogh chair" and has it collapse beneath him as a woman attempts to snap his photo, per Stuff.com. Watch the moment here via 7News. The unidentified couple then fled the museum.
"Sometimes we lose our brains to take a picture, and we don't think about the consequences," says museum director Vanessa Carlon. "Of course it was an accident, but these two people left without speaking to usthat isn't an accident." The museum has notified police, but it was unclear whether the couple might face charges if identified. A sign on the chair warned museum-goers not to touch the piece, which was created by Italian artist Nicola Bolla in tribute to Vincent Van Gogh's painting of a similar chair. The museum declined to put a price on the chair, which is decorated with Swarovski crystals.

(2,602 posts)I would imagine that the chair was marked in some way as an exhibit. Even if it wasnt, people should have the common sense to realize that a chair that is covered in crystals is not the kind of thing you should sit on. For a selfie, no less. Its bad enough that they broke the thing, but its inexcusable that they ran from the scene.
