(55,528 posts)There also was a fife and 2 drums playing like it was 1776. I gave them a flower to thank them. Someone brought a big bunch of flowers to the stage at the beginning of the protest and the speakers encouraged us to "give them to people to say thank you, especially the police". Well, I never got close enough to any police but I did pass the 2 drums and fife so I think they deserved it, too!.

I was close the shedding some - hanky to the rescue!
Kid had the crowd mesmerised for a bit there - and rightly so.

(17,764 posts)My deepest thanks to that young person and to the parents for their involvement.
We NEED to reclaim things like the National Anthem. Democracy is ours; not theirs. They want a king.

(3,108 posts)Was more powerful than any parade, any display of armament, any speech or any historic narrative that stumbled out of DC that day.

(12,094 posts)But I wish the adults had removed their hats. That's such an automatic response from me (years in marching band!), that I can't believe that no one in the crowd took off their hat.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
