Cornell University Anticipates Layoffs as it Faces 'Profound Financial Challenges'

The university referenced several funding challenges it has faced in recent months, including over $1 billion in federal funds frozen by the Trump administration, threats to future research funding and federal financial aid, “rapidly escalating” legal expenses and an anticipated increased tax on endowment.

11000 people employed by Cornell. Repukes seem to have no idea how much their insanity will cost families and communities. And/or just as likely they don't give a $hit.

1. at first I scoffed at this headline, but looking at their numbers--we have a problem here

At first I was primarily concerned about small local colleges with little in the way of funds, and how they would be affected by TSF reign of terror. It's clear now that even colleges with many graduates who have been blessed with great financial success will be affected...

Hopefully the country can regain its sanity before its too late and these brave educators can have their government funding restored.

2. Yes, and they are sucking the money out of communities

It will ripple thru town economies.

Those smaller colleges that close are no different than factories that close in a town. Crushes entire area.

4. cornell also has a lot of foreign students paying full freight

Those students may now decide not to come to the US, which means their tuition money is also lost.

5. Alumni and corporations will have to fill in the gap as much as possible

There was an article recently about a company funding medical research at Harvard (I think) - that might have to be the model for now.
